MELBOURNE MEMBERS

1

The Day of the Volkswagen at Yarra Glen is now two weeks away.   We have many members in and around Melbourne and I ask them to consider coming.   For those who have never been to this annual event, there is much to see and do.  

Apart from showing your Syncro to the many thousands who attend, there is a great array of displays, swap sites and similar, plus kid's activities.   We have been allocated a choice dedicated site just for our Syncros and it would be great to fill that to capacity.

More recent members might not know that Volkswagen hand-built two 16" Syncros to compete in the 1990 Australian Safari, both of which are now in the hands of our members.   Of particular interest is the double cab 16" Syncro, now in the hands of Mark Boys, one of the original members of this group.   Mark and his unique double cab will be there and it is well worth a close look.

We are now up to nine Syncros.   Do please come along and take part in the show of (Syncro) strength.

Hi Les,
I will be coming along to the DOTVW in a shiny 2WD Caravelle, sorry for the short notice but it would be great to park with the Syncro's if you dont mind. A couple of mates may be coming as well, one in a hot T3 twin cab and another in a Syncro, hopefully there is room for them too, it would be great to get all the T3's together on the day. I'll be bringing an awning as weather is tipped to get to 33 on the day. Looking fwd to catching up with everyone.

It took half a year of patient negotiation to get the spot now allocated to the T3 Syncro group and I emphasise that it is the T3 Syncro group, not the Any T3 group.  I will see how the space works out on the day.   It might be possible to tack the non-Syncro T3’s on to the end of the allocated area or put them somewhere nearby but all priority goes to the T3 Syncros.

Eddie,

A dead Syncro is a great tragedy indeed and I hope that you get a lot of sympathy from everyone.   Given that you are an active T3 Syncro member and you find yourself in tragedy territory, come along and I will arrange that you are at least close to us on the day.

Hi Les,
No problems at all, quite happy to be parked close by if possible. Since my Syncro died a few years ago, and with not enough spare time to get it back on the road, (another 'quick' project I started turned into a 'can of worms', a very rusty can indeed!) its been quite frustrating and miss driving it alot, so I look forward to being inspired by group members there to get that great car going again. I have collected some amazing, rare, cool extra bits and pieces from overseas, some of which I've applied to the 2WD Caravelle just for the DOTVW.
