Missing photos

The missing photos are now in a file called Miscellaneous - which I
did not create. I will now move them back to where they were
originally!

I'm not getting the photos attached. I tried uploading a few with my last post but can't see them, or anyone else's.


What gives?

This MAY explain it, unless Yahoo has changed their modus operandi since or else a different issue.

In your Yahoo member account settings for accessing syncro forum, your preferences can be set in one of two ways. Set ALL member posts (including any attachments) sent direct to your email account, i.e., kestel.p@bigpond.com. Or else to receive NO member posts into your bigpond email account. In effect, choose instead to read all member posts at syncro forum webpage. However, latter choice does not provide viewing of attachments, even your own.

Once upon a time, for a while, Yahoo did provide viewing of attachments at syncro forum webpage. They stopped it.

It was working only a few days ago. I could see photo attachments.
A setting has changed maybe.

Yahoo could well have changed everything again – I had better look!  Yonks ago, they used to tell the group owners in advance but now we learn that something has changed only when members encounter a problem!

Yahoo has pursued various policies over the years in respect of attached pics.  Ten plus years ago, pics were readable no matter what email delivery you used.  They then changed that and pics were readable only on direct email.  This is an optional setting that can be set by individual members.  This needs to be ‘Individual Emails’ and it comes direct to your Inbox without having to open the Yahoo group website.

(Sometimes, an ISP can change something and block attachments; this is relatively rare.)

Peter,

I have just been into Management and find that your membership is set to ‘No Emails’.   I have changed that to ‘Individual Emails’, which brings all emails direct to your Inbox without you having to do anything. 

How has this happened?  Who knows!  Yahoo moves in mysterious ways.  It has happened in the past that settings have changed/been changed without a member’s knowledge until something goes wrong.

Thanks Les, but still something is wrong.
For example a few days ago when someone attached a photo to their post I could see a thumbnail of the images with the post. It is a most informative communication...a picture tells a 1000 words...

Nothing to do with personal preferences ie: Individual Emails (I think??).

It has stopped working!

Another example: I wrote a post about the radiator bleed system. I uploaded 2 photos (which showed they had uploaded) but they completely disappeared.

I changed your settings to ‘Individual’ an hour or so ago.  If the problem persists, then it must be in your email programme (blocking attachments) or your ISP doing the same thing.

The last email that you sent with an attachment (yesterday) was your bleed bottle, which I got.  Prior to that were several with starter motor pictures, which I also got.

Hi Les and PK,
Concerning seeing thumbnail pics in emails, my understanding is that that scenario indicates that those pics have been uploaded to the pictures/file section of syncro forum by members and are available for full size viewing from there for members only. Meaning one must login to syncro forum first to gain access.

That scenario is totally different to previous pic viewing issue discussed i.e., pics attached to forum posts and sent to member email accounts for viewing from there, not at syncro forum webpage.

So two different methods of viewing posted pics + one method for viewing text posts only.

All sounds a bit strange, I only view from the web page (don't get emails), and have been able to see attached photo's fine until the last ~week.

Same happens whether I log in at home or from work.
