Can anyone tell me where the Hall control unit lives in the standerd
2.1 Syncro? I think that mine is faulty but, without opening the main
harness, I have no idea where the wires are going from the sender unit
on the distributor. The wires disappear into the loom on the front
left side of the engine bay and appear to be heading over to the right.

Bentleys is of no help. The section on the Digifant ignition system
doesn't mention the control unit, although it is mentioned and
pictured for the California air cooled and for Digijet.

Doesn't have one. It's part of the ECU on the MV engine.

Thanks for that. That's about the first sensible thing that I have
heard all week!! I thought that it must have been part of the ECU
but was not at all sure. Nice to be reassured and thank you.

Les, Phil,

I have two (German) documents here. One is an "official" Repair Guide for the VW T3, which I believe is the equivalent of "Bentleys" (not sure because never seen the Bentleys - only guessing by following the discussions in the group...)

The second is a booklet which I believe has only been meant for "internal" (VW) use.
It shows the wiring of all the electrical stuff. A sheet about the wiring of the ignition system, the ECU etc. is attached with this mail (PDF.File)

It can be seen that there are two connections from the distributor "O" (hall sensor "G40") to the ECU "J169". One connection is marked "green" and plugs into "18" at the ECU, the other is marked "red/black" and plugs into "8" at the ECU.
A third connection is marked "brown/white" and plugs into "6" at the ECU.

Hope this helps at all

Regards
Joachim
