Hi Dave,
have you one or is it just cracked or broken? Both mine broke after 18 years in service and I fixed them with black Sikaflex - the Swiss original one - don't use anything else.
They are now as good as new.

Dave,

When a Syncro is put up on a car hoist, the front mudflaps get bent at 90 degrees and frequently pinched.  This will hasten the cracking process.  Both mine were cracked half way through when I bought the vehicle and I fixed them the same way as Hartmut did - with black Sikaflex.  Be sure to clean the cracked surfaces thoroughly before using it.  I took mine off completely and cleaned them thoroughly.  Small tip: spray them with oven cleaner then blast it off with a high pressure water blaster.  This gets them back to very clean rubber and they will look brand new.  Lie them flat on the bench after you have put in the Sikaflex and pack the edges to maintain the alignment.  When the Sikaflex has cured, it is near impossible to see the repair.

For anyone running BFG TA tyres with the raised white lettering, the oven cleaner and water blast brings them up pure white again.

Just a word of warning, Les. Unpainted aluminium surfaces do not take kindly to many oven cleaner. I've even managed to remove some of the anodising on my alloy wheels by leaving oven cleaner on for even less than a half minute.

Les and Hart - which product / version do you use? My mudflaps are
also cracked

I don't know much about Sikaflex however I found this helpful tip vai
Google from a kayaker on a forum:

"Lesson#

1. Dont buy Sikaflex from bunnings if they dont sell the nozzle. Other
places sell this sikaflex stuff you just have to look harder!

2. Let sikaflex cure before cleaning up the overspills etc. when you
clean up large blobs with alcohol prior to curing you will just smudge
the damn stuff and change its consistency to something that can no
longer be easily pryed off the hull. "

Oh dear - have we opened a can of worms here??????

We buy it normally from Homeware or Mitre 10 as we are no Bunnings fans......
It is not a special thing Mark - it has been on the market for many years. It is Swiss and it works.
And with Les' brilliant instructions there is just one more thing to add maybe - I cut a deep V groove into the crack using a small angle grinder and let the Sikaflex cure for approx. 1 week (lying flat) before I put the flap back on again.

Good luck
Hartmut.

Dave,

The most appropriate Sikaflex is 252, which is an adhesive/sealant.  It is used industrially to achieve strong bonds.  You won't have any problems getting a nozzle from Bunnings.  I get a new nozzle whenever I buy anything like that.  There is no need to throw out old nozzles.  A piece of stiff wire wound into a bit of a spiral is usually enough to get the cured material out of the nozzle.  Don't try solvents - waste of time.  There's too much inside any nozzle to even contemplate it.
