My Conversion is Up and Running!

Yes I've been pretty quiet for a couple of months but it's now time to enjoy the fruits of my
labour! and tell you folk all about it :-)))
Today I did the first 30kms with the Subie engine in the back, and loved every second.

Everything that I have read about them is TRUE!
It pulls hard, it is MUCH quieter than the wbxer at 110kph , the exhaust note is under load
something else. I am in love! At idle it is so quiet you have to check that it is actually
running.
Not for the purists of course but I think it is a perfect engine for the bus. I took it up to
140kph and it got there with ease. I'm going to have to fit a cruise control or I'll end up in
trouble!

Of course I still have numerous small items/issues to resolve but at least it is going (and
the wife also has a vehicle now!)

For those that don't already know, it is a 2003 SOHC EJ25 with 23000kms on the clock and
I hope it brings me and my family many years of fun and happiness.

I wish I could think of something else to go out for!

Cheers,

Andy.

I think you deserve lots of Congratulations for your effort, Andy.
Although I don't contribute here because I'm a mere '85 Transporter
(I'd DEARLY love a Synchro)owner, I read all the Posts and your
effort and others like it give me a few ideas on what my options are
if/when my 1.9L runs into serious problems. I've been on the Wallaby
fulltime for the last 18 months and it looks like staying that way,
so if I do run into problems it'll mean parking up somewhere,
grabbing everything that's needed, and into it. A brief outline of
everything else you needed (if it's applicable to a Transporter)
apart from the Subaroo would be appreciated, when you have the time.

Once again - Congratulations. - Michael.
Andy
Good to hear that the Subie conversion is going well.
Probally what I should have done rather than the TDI, still, too late
now. I've just got a much slower and noiser vehicle but it is going
well so far. It will be interesting to see how your fuel economy goes.

All the best

Hello to all who have done engine conversions. I am jealous! My 2.1
water boxer is going well with a little maintenance but would like to
upgrade some time later next year when funds are available.

Bruce - Which TDI did you put in? Is it the 5 cylinder? Did you end
up changing the gearing? Larger wheels? Not what you were hoping
for? How did you go about doing it re: getting conversion parts etc.

Has anyone else done TDI conversions in Australia? What has your
experience been.

I have also chatted to a wrecker in Riverstone who swears by a
commodore v6 conversion.

:) Sam

PS sorry Bruce found the post where you answer some of my TDI
questions :) Still where did you source some of your conversion parts ?
Thanks, Sam
