New 2WD fuel tank problem

Hi, I just recently had the fuel tank, sender, fuel pump, gasket and seals to the expansion tanks replaced to my '89 2WD Caravelle.

But the fuel spurts back out of the filler trying to fill up at the bowser.

I've tried the nozzle in different positions, and I've tried the trigger slow and fast.

All with the same result.

Anyone?

Gerald.

Vent blockage Gerry?

Note there are those 2 expansion tanks with roll over vales in the wheel arches at the front plus all the vents above the tank - then the vent to the filler.

Maybe take them all out out and clean them out?

Quite a complex system there.

My long range tank causes similar problems but just needs to be filled slowly and carefully.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Gerald,

As Skot said there are a lot of lines in the system. If that is happening I'd be looking at the vent line to the filler first. If the tank was replaced, is it definitely connected up correctly? Also the factory filler pipe had a check valve on the end, is that still in place?

Is it spurting out when empty or close to full?

Also a silly question, have you tried a different servo? Not all bowsers are the same!

Richard

As Richard said there is a small ball to the base of the 2wd filler that is there to prevent back flow I believe.

I know my 2wd caravelle has a crimped over vent to the passenger side of the van and the expansion tank was missing. The van fills and runs fine event with this situation so the expansion tank vents are not likely to be your issue unless its the drivers side one where the filler actually is?

The filler pipe is reasonably easy to extract as its only help in by wedging between the side of the van and the tank into a seal.

A good place to start your checks.

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Scott and  hi Richard.
Thanks for the replies.
It's going back to the mechanic on Thursday.
I'll try a different petrol station tomorrow. But it was filling ok before I had the tank etc replaced. When starting to put petrol in, it spurted out from nearly empty....after a while I gave up with 1/4 tank still to fill.
Gerald.
