New engine and air fuel ratio gauge

Yes Theo that's correct. Ive left one of the analog outputs as is to mimmick the oem 02 sensor and programmed the other to suit me. As mentioned in an earlier post, be careful not to connect that second output without first reprogramming it's output voltages. From memory factory defaults were 0 to 5 volts and not sure how the ecu would react to a extra 4 odd volts. I programmed the second output with 1.2 volts as a maximum (to give a rich mixture) and .2 volts to give a lean mixture(from memory -I'd have to recheck my values). This actually reverses the graph from factory defualt but it seems to work. As i said there is still a bit of tweeking to do so hopefully I can get some input from yourself and Greg when your installs are complete. Good luck and hope it gets you good results .
Eddie.

Hey Eddie, Glad to hear it is working out. Just got mine installed. Haven't had a chance to fiddle with it yet. Don't have a serial port on my lap top either. Did you buy the genuine usb adaptor cable? There are lots of cheap ones available but I wonder if they will work? Greg E

Greg, I bought a Belkin adapter . Had trouble loading it's software on my windows vista operating system but was ok on my daughter's windows 7 OS. You're welcome to use my cable if you need . Have you had a run with the gauge connected yet, and what readings are you getting? On a different topic , I would like to know where you got your propshaft recoed & if you were happy with the results. I think I recall you suggesting that it was difficult, so a totally new one would be a better option. Eddie.

Eddie,Greg,
I installed my  MTX-L gauge and is getting cross-eyed looking at the numbers jumping around.
Eddie, I would like to have look at your setup.Could you please suggest a suitable time.
Cheers

Hi Eddie, The propshaft people I use are Ken Hastings balancing services, 43 Chifley dve Preston. I have been using them for 20 years and the business has changed from father to son in that time, Highly recommended. Everyone has their own opinion on syncro prop shafts, mine is this. The ears are too soft and the PROPER unis are too expensive. First point is, don't attempt to knock out the unis yourself, you WILL bend the ears! If you have a shop replace the unis and balance it will cost you over $450. It will probably need rebuilding in another 100,000km! Two years ago I was quoted just over $600 to make a new shaft with a slip yoke and commodore v6 unis. I like the idea of a slip yoke to not put load on the pinion shafts. There are cheap unis available, they are off a tractor pto shaft and rated to 1000rpm. A lot of people seem to have used them and I have not heard any disaster stories. That said I would not use them.
I have driven the bus with gauge connected but no O2 feed back to the ECU. It was rich at idle, lean on cruise and lean on accel. I expected as much. I have a K&N filter, a large bore muffler and have removed the restrictive cyclone bowl. All these mods will slightly lean out the mixture and it was probably lean to start with.  I love the function and quality of that cyclone filter but it just slows the airflow too much. Look forward to having a tinker. Where did you by the belkin and how much? I have bought a $6 cheapie off flea bay but don't hold much hope. Greg E

Thanks Greg , will get in touch with your propshaft contact as soon as I get a spare minute.
Got my belkin cable from Harvey Norman but it looked like it was the last of something that wouldn't be restocked. They also stung me $60.
What sort of big bore muffler did you get as that's one more item I need to replace. Eddie.

Greg,
I bought one today from Jaycar Digitech # XC4834  for $30  but not installed as yet.
Too many other things on my plate, or too scared to find out if it works.
Eddie, you might like to listen to my new muffler?
Cheers,
Theo

Got my belkin cable from Harvey Norman but it looked like it was the last of something that wouldn't be restocked. They also stung me $60.
What sort of big bore muffler did you get as that's one more item I need to replace. Eddie.

Greg E

Thanks Theo, Keep us informed if it works. The blurb does not mention being windows 7 compatible, what operating system are you running?
Eddie, I just bought a cheap 6" redback muffler and the right 3 hole flange plate. I welded straight pipe on the flange and that bolts to the cat. The muffler slides over that with a u clamp and I clamped a right angle bend as a tail pipe on the end. The biggest problem with going this route is the genuine muffler is more like 5.5". I want to make up new hanger brackets whilst the engine is out. Give us a call (0409420164) if you what a cuppa after seeing the tailshaft people, we live just around the corner. Greg E

Greg,
The adapter  XC4834 works fine. Now, I have to learn the program - still more work.

Greg E

Greg,
I bought one today from Jaycar Digitech # XC4834  for $30  but not installed as yet.
Too many other things on my plate, or too scared to find out if it works.
Eddie, you might like to listen to my new muffler?
Cheers,
Theo

Thanks Greg , will get in touch with your propshaft contact as soon as I get a spare minute.
Got my belkin cable from Harvey Norman but it looked like it was the last of something that wouldn't be restocked. They also stung me $60.
What sort of big bore muffler did you get as that's one more item I need to replace. Eddie.

Greg E

Have you had a run with the gauge connected yet, and what readings are you getting? On a different topic , I would like to know where you got your propshaft recoed & if you were happy with the results. I think I recall you suggesting that it was difficult, so a totally new one would be a better option. Eddie.

Eddie, Thanks for letting me have a look at your setup and thank you for the hard work you put into this project                                   I bought the on/on rocker switch and then just copied what you have done.
With much the same result you described in your previous e-mail. It certainly got more .oomph.   Near the Pascoe Vale railway station there are a few very steep streets I use as a test run. With the old  2.1, I had to change into first to get up, now second will do with a bit to spare. Mind you it runs very rich now, I wonder what will the mileage be like. Not an issue at the moment with the LPG  48 c                                  I will have to tinker with the setting to get it a bit leaner - what can you suggest?
I also have to keep en eye on the speedo till I get used to the extra hp.

Cheers,
Theo

Theo, I played with my setting a bit on Sunday and confirmed that the combinations of voltages and afr's are virtually endless. I altered mine to run between 12 and 13 on the rich circut and it really makes my van motor along but you can almost see the fuel gauge drop. I also took out the cylone filter as Greg suggested and this made it perform even better , particularly on gas. It was too lean to start with , but I then adjusted the mixtures on the gas system and now it runs perfectly. Your gas system should have some adjusting screws somwhere to adjust mixtures. I'll see how I go playing with the settings a bit more this w'end & let you know. Eddie.

Hi How long did it take for your gauge to go from htr to cal.

Greg E

Greg,
I bought one today from Jaycar Digitech # XC4834  for $30  but not installed as yet.

Eddie.

Greg E

Alf, I don't know exactly how long, I guess around 20-30seconds. It is heating the sensor so it will take some time.

Greg E

Greg,
I bought one today from Jaycar Digitech # XC4834  for $30  but not installed as yet.

Eddie.

Greg E

Hi Alf, the error codes are listed on innovate's web site . It looks like the error code you have relates to a short circuit. Eddie.

In this case it only takes about a minute to go from htr then cal and then read 22.4 and be ready for normal use. After initial calibrating and with normal start up it should read htr and then after about 20-30 seconds give an afr reading. Hope this helps. Eddie.

Bingo.

This is about the best I can find. Under $50 if you buy one, $35ish for two and sub $30 for three. It is used and I can't be 100% sure if it will fit our application but I am ready to pull the trigger. If you guys are interested I could buy them and split the cost when they come in. Greg E

Eddie.

Hey Eddie the switch has arrived. Looks good too. I had the right terminals in stock so i put those on. Are you in the big smoke any time soon? Greg E

Turns out you can customise the output signal or voltage, it sends to the ECU when you use it's 02 sensor in place of the stock 02 sensor. This is done by running the supplied program, plugging the gauge into a laptop & altering the numbers.(should read ALL the instructions before fitting & not just the quick install) Almost brings Digifant into this century. I'll have a go at it on the weekend & report the results. Hopefully I don't stuff it up! Eddie.
