New Front Shocks

Hi All

I was hoping that someone might have the model or part number of the
Old Man Emu shock that can be used in the Syncro front.
Or a better alternative?

Regards to all and thanks in advance.

Peter K

Gday Peter,

Van-Cafe lists OME shocks for Syncro on their site.

Check out http://www.van-cafe.com/vanagon_parts.jsp?ct=857043111&pa=pct&pct=829148816

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Ken

I don't have the part no. but if you just ask any ARB shop they will tell you.
I bought from them nearly 4 years ago. Still seem to be OK but I haven't done much 4WDing, hardly any really. So wheather they are any good or not I'm not much help. Bilsten Shocks seem to be popular but you have to have them made up as they haven't got a model for the syncro.

Bruce

It turns out that ARB who supply EMU shocks (part N38S front) sent
the last batch to USA. ARB dont even make them, they are an import
from who knows where. So I gave up on the EMU shocks.

I have purchsed KONI (part 82-2100 front) adjustables for $422. I
have been running KONI adjustables on the rear (part 82-2101 rear)
for the last 150000kms & they are very good. THey are also fully re-
buildable.

As far as I know, Koni do not make front shocks for T3 syncros. The rears are the same as a Nissan King Cab or something.

OMEs are made in Australia by Monroe(?).

Last time I checked, a few years ago mind you, they didn't make a Koni for the syncro, only for the 2WD. That is good news if they now have them. I liked Koni, had them on my Cortina way back in 1970!!!!

Your Right, the KONI shocks dont fit!
Monroe make a unit (model 34970) however suprise suprise there is
none in the country.
I eventually found a pair of SACHS (OEM) (model 251413031) in
Brisbane via Hanvic South Yarra Autoparts. They cost $191 plus GST
each.
What a saga.

That's interesting.  Rudi's name appeared on the original list when I was sending out a newsletter to Australian Syncro owners in early '04 but his e-mail got bounced.  Since I started the Syncro_T3_Australia website, his name hasn't reappeared.

Hi Les,

I purchased my 16” Syncro in 1998 from a MAF pilot (Australian) stationed near Darwin .

My Syncro is a camper; Trakka conversion.

There was a 16 “ double cab Syncro here in WA owned by Hans Bouenkirk and this

one was eventually purchased by Mark Boys in 2004. This may be the one that

Mike is referring to.

Hope this clarifies things.

I have asked Mike Plompen for more details because the buyer of the 16" he is referring to is Rudi Purkhart, who was listed on the very early newsletters that I sent out in the first half of 04, before I started the dedicated website.   Rudi is in Austria at present and I am hoping that he might contact our group.  I am keen to know if it is a 2.1 MV and whether he is bringing it to Australia.  (Mike, you might suggest this to him.)

Mike recently found a RHD 16" Doka in Europe but it proved not to have the 2.1 MV engine, so your Transporter and Mark's double cab are still the only two RHD 2.2 MV's that we know of.  I am waiting for Mike to come back and tell us what engine is in the 16" that Rudi has bought.

In any event, thanks for adding details to the history of the Australian Syncros.

Graham Lees owned and drove the dual cab 16". His brother John (now deceased) was his co driver.
Graham owned Beetle Spares in Brookvale and Northshore Volkswagen. He also raced a V8 Porsche in off road events.

See press photos number 5 of 9. Graham is 3rd from left with the two Australian 16" syncros.
