New Member Introduction - Todd Triebler - Subarugears

Hi all,
New member Todd Triebler here.
I run a business ouut of Sydney called Subarugears that makes Subaru transmissions with reversed ring and pinions for rear engined vehicles.
These are available in both 4WD and 2WD.

I have had a number of potential customers contact me in the past with a view to swapping out their Syncro gearbox with a Subaru one, either still powered by a VW motor or also swapping to Subaru power so thought it might be worthwhile to join this group.

I am working on a number of changes to the Subaru transmission to make it a 'bolt in' swap for a tired Syncro gearbox, namely a matching ratio with the VW front differential and a modification to the front output of the gearbox that eliminates the transfer gears and shortens the length, so that it bolts right up to the VW tailshaft.

As this moves closer to reality I may update the group from time to time and seek your feedback.

In the meantime, please take a look at www.subarugears.com

regards

Todd Triebler
Todd,

Welcome to the group. That sounds like exciting news. I'll bet the news would be even more welcome on the SubaruVanagon forum and on the worldwide Syncro List. I can only think of a handful in this group with Scoobie power. Skot, BenC... not sure who else. I've got one but not in a Syncro.

At any rate, keep up the effort. A granny gear option sure would get me worked up.

Cheers,

BenT

I know the people with Todds boxes in their Beetles and Manx buggies are very happy with their purchase.

BenC,

I don't doubt that at all. We have a granny gear in our Syncros which permit these wonderful beasts to do a lot with so very little. Losing that would be a major blow for an expedition Syncro IMHO.

BenT,good to talk to you again.
I agree totally with you about grawler gear.
You would also lose rear locker I believe, and the ability to couple and decouple.
When I spoke to Todd(2 years ago, Nationals),he was talking about using a Subaru front diff as well. This also eliminating the VC.
This now looks like it is not the case.
I guess until someone takes the plunge and gives it a go,we will never know.
