Hi fellow members, reasonably new to site & this is my first message, so hopefully what I do is correct. Owner since new of a 1989 White Syncro Window Van, originally purchased in Newcastle early 1990. Over the last 3 years it has been undergoing a very well deserved refurbishment. Vehicle has nether Air Conditioning, power steering or diff locks, have kept vehicle as original as possible save for the new non mechanical additions of late EG. New wheels & camper fit out. I shall attempt to attach a few photos. Cheers Matt.
Welcome Matt to the syncro forum where interaction is encouraged and we all love pics! I think pic sizes are limited to maximum 1Mb each.
So for uploading pics, when you click on the REPLY tab, a screen comes up to type a reply or a new topic in.
Also there at the top of that screen, in the middle, is the tab showing an UP arrow. Click on that and takes you to another screen where you can then seek a pic file from your computer for you to select and upload. Just follow the prompts. Remember we all had “L” plates on doing this at the start too.
There’s the opportunity to meet up with some syncros at the Valla VW Spectacular later this month. It’s only 50klms away from you so maybe consider doing that on the Sunday of the show. Details elsewhere here in another topic Enjoy!.
Ken, thanks for the info was much appreciated. I used that upload function & attached a 176KB sized photo but no photo appeared only details about the photo ?
Further thanks for the heads up about Valla, I was aware & do plan to visit for the day, it has been many years since I was last there. Back then my Syncro was a very dirty work horse.
Matt,
I see your photos now above. Works!!
Is that your lockable LPG gas bottle door?
Syncro looks WAY too respectable. HA!
Ken
Second attempt with photos all OK, must have been your input.
Yes a lockable LPG enclosure to accommodate a 2Kg bottle. I made a timber mold for the enclosure & door frame which fitted nicely between lower metal body section & the timber trim that runs through the middle of side panel. Then employed a fibreglass fabricator to form. Was a stressful day when I cut the side panel, measured 5 times cut once. Cutout section was then attached to door frame.
Yeah courageous if you employed a 4" angle ginder for the cut. I like the newer generation multi-tool for such delicate work.
Never met a multi-skilled sparkie. Well done there!
Nice syncro Matt and welcome to the forum.
Agree with Ken regarding your bravery to cut an opening into the side of your pristine syncro.
I couldnt do that even when I only needed to cut a hole for the long range tank in the front wheel arch (where the 2wd filler hole is) - had to get my mechanic to do it so I didnt see it.
Looks very well setup for camping!
As stated I was both stressed & reluctant to commit to the cut, but following multiple measurements followed by sticking a template on the exterior I proceeded to drill a small pilot hole to confirm. Then used a small diameter metal cutting wheel, all went according to plan, thank goodness.
