My useless new coil is a QUINTON HAZELL brand.

Hi Theo, did you put an ohm meter across the coil to see? Interesting to knowif the fault is visible.

Hi Richard,
I finally checked the faulty coil; Terminals 15+ and 1- =2Ω 15+ and centre pole =6.4kΩ
As Roger would say - toss the coil.
