Scott, I have to be careful, Les might cancel may membership if I talk too much private stuff and then there is Ken watching closely, after all he wants to inherit the beast. I wonder what makes him think that I go into T3 eternity before he does?? Is he going to Yoga?? Is he semi vegetarian and does he live on certified organic food?? I do all of these things and much more ‘cause I want to sell the truck on e-bay once Les has taught me how that works ,or BenT lets us know how he went with his treasures on e-bay.....Maybe it’s time for us to think about a T3 museum, after all mine is already museumnised, hardly used anymore. A tad sad really........
We had so many great drives in this vehicle without any major dramas (the gearbox saga excluded) , I would not know where to start. The trip where the screw- on cap of the header tank took off comes to mind. We were loaded to the brim, picking up a paint consignment from the forwarding agents. Roughly 2000kgs on truck and trailer. It was hot. Fan was coming on stage 2. Then this almighty blow and Wauchope Town is engulfed in steam. An RTA man in his shiny Highlux stopped and tried to help, so nice of him, but in order to be able to help you have to have VW in your blood, you got to breath it , live it and you got to love it, not as much as your wife , but a VERY close second.......
Anyway, I did not make it home , I borrowed a T4 and had to ferry the stuff back home in 3 loads, each round trip 80 kms and 700m / 2000ft up the hill ( Comboyne). The last trip up we took the Tristar/trailer in tow . at 1 in the morning it was all done. Mueller x Mueller send me a black cap and a blue cap. I liked the blue cap more so I didn’t put it on but kept it, after all the black one had lasted some 15 years...
Tschuess- see ya- ciao- cheers....Home is where the HARTIS

Hart,
Tell us more of your exploits in the tristar - not mentioning the promotional jumps it did prior to your ownership (1st time round).
Thanks,
Scott

Hold it right there, Sam, so far mine has done 4o5 000 km and only now is starting to use some oil, say ¾ ltr per 1000 km. I wouldn’t worry too much. Even the Russians and Polish are in love with the 2.1 WBX and that’s poss why there are so few left in old Germany. Sam, also ask Ken about the treatment mine had to endure ,Always loaded to the max ,like 2 by 300 kg each round bales on the Tristar and 3 on the dual axle trailer, going up the muddy paddock engaging the rear lock n full flight, which answers with such an enormous bang that I thought for a moment the g/box had exploded...................
Those were the days (years) of total mis/abuse. Maybe it’s time to write down a few of those experiences...... Ciao Hartis

Sam,
I was told soon after I bought my syncro by a local VW service mechanic that in his opinion, a WBX motor was good for 250,000 klms, after which an overhaul is most likely due. Now I can't say one way or the other as to the veracity of this opinion. Anyone else think this is a pretty reasonable ballpark mileage for a WBX prior to overhaul?
If so, then I've got 50,000 clicks to go and counting down.
Ken
