Hi syncronutters,
A reminder the annual Old Bar VW meet is approaching in about a month's time, so for everyones planning and decision making, it'd be useful to know early who's attending. Anyone going, please reply here. Ta.

On a side note, it was interesting that at the recent VW Macksville Spectacular on the Sunday, I counted a "bakers dozen" syncros in the showground. Amazingly I believe there were more syncros at that show than 2WD T3s!

Yes as usual I wouldn't miss this weekend.

Its a fun packed weekend and we are staying in the syncro at Lanis camp-ground.

Hopefully the weather will be warm and dry for that weekend.

I am confused the website says October long weekend but also says September 29/30.

I’m in Qld (don’t hold that against me) and need some guidance, what are the actual dates of the Old Bar Festival?

Peter,

They moved it back a week to allow for the Queenslanders who dont like daylight savings :-D.

It is extremely late September this year.

Who knows what they will do next year.

Im staying in Lanis on the Beach @ Old Bar so I will catch up with everyone on the paddock after the 5k fun run.

Hi Ken and all. Just back from 3 weeks in the Kimberley. Amazing place. Did not take the Syncro but did an organised tour in a merc 4x4 bus. Spotted a T3 in Broome and turned out he is a member of the T3oa group. Touring from Vic. Keen to find out if he tackled the Gibb River Road. Never seen corrugations like it. So impressed that Sebastian has done it. So rough on vehicles. One guy told me that a trip in the Kimberley means an automatic write off of 6 tyres and 4 shocks!! I will be taking mine there one day but avoid the Gibb.

I will be attending the Old Bar event on the Sunday. Will be celebrating Collingwood’s Grand Final win from the day before!!!

Thanks Richard for notifying us. Any other attendees, please also advise asap.

Scotts point below raises an organisational issue for the Sunday "main event" day. Ideally attendees arrive by at least Saturday pm.

Unlike Macksville Spectacular where the organisers group model types together upon entering the field on the Sunday, I believe this does not happen at Old Bar. Meaning if syncros don't want to be scattered to the four winds on the field because we all arrive and enter at different times, then some agreement needs to be in place beforehand so we all enter the field together as a group. Ideally entry happens earlier rather than later or else we risk getting caught up in a long entry queue and also risk ending up in outer Siberia somewhere on the back field and so having to do a lot of walking back and forth all day far away from the main activities, toilets, stalls etc.

So ideally we should aim for an early assembly adjacent to the entry point, then enter the field together to secure a superior spot.

At this point then, I'd recommend syncro outside assembly start from 7.45am and attendees join the entry queue together at 8.30am. Late arrivals will simply need to take pot luck.

Please consider your planned travel times and adjust to suit these entry time arrangements. Feel free to comment further on this if you have positive comment.

Problem is there is not really anywhere to assemble due to crowds.

Sounds like a good plan to me Ken.

As usual I have no over night plans, so happy to tag along on a freedom camp if it's happening again.

HAha, I will have to fit the "new" set I have and swap out for your old and not so shiny set when your not looking.....

I do have one original bracket (off a T2) I came across the other day. I would guess they are the same as on the T3. I have no idea why a previous owner removed the original set from my bus.

Those jail-bars get damaged easily as they are soft aluminium that bends easily.

Apparently available new though.
