After fitting a set of Old Man Emu shocks to the front of my Syncro,
along with some heavier springs, I was very happy with the improved
ride.
However one year and about 5000 Km later I notice the lower rubber
bush on one side is splitting, and I'm getting a clunk from that side
when it hits a pothole - this had happened to the original shock on
that side after 10 years. The 5000 Km were 90% on tar so I am surprised.
ARB, the Australian distributors will not replace the shock, unless I
take it off so they can send it to the makers for their engineers to
inspect - leaving me without it for at least 3 - 4 weeks.
Apparently the bush is bonded to the ferrule and sleeve, so
replacement bushes are not available.
I'm considering getting a replacement machined from polyurethane
although I'm told this material is not as good as rubber for impact
loads.
Has anyone had this problem and tried getting or making replacement
bushes? Any dimensions or ideas?
Thanks,
Bob Turnbull
