Old Syncro

I don't know what year model this syncro is, but have a look where the spare wheel is

Finnish Syncro

I can only remember seeing one Australian delivered syncro with a spare wheel like that.

Where do they put the spare in a 16" Doka?

Phill

Hi Phill, I missed out on one in SA with a spare like that. It was '85 or '86. I think they had a divot in the floor for the wheel like the bays had. I am guessing the 16" syncros started production after they move the spares to the front? Greg E

Hart,

My syncro is a 10/88 model according to the Ateco Plate - it has the spare wheel carrier under the front which the tyre can rightly be removed to make a great place to sleep for a few hours!

Cheers,

Ateco plate has nothing to do with year model or build date.

No they didn't have the divot. It just looked like the design team were finished and someone said "Oh shit! We've forgot to put a spare in. Just get some bolts and a bit of 3x2 and we'll stick it in."

16" wheels don't fit.
The compliance plate says 10/88 and Ateco says 9/88?

For them both to have a round an October 1988 date stamp, the vehicle
would need to be in Australia before that I would assume and hence
manufactured a fair while before that to allow for import time?

I'm confused.

Those plates are just Australian rubbish and mean nothing.

You can only tell by the VIN.

Greg,

That makes mine one of the first built 89 models built in August 1988.

Which explains why I missed out on the round headlights and the bay window style spare wheel carrier.

Thanks for the link.

Cheers,

Hi guys. We had a go at this issue a while back when we tried to work out who had the oldest or was it last?? Syncro. Phil directed us to that website and we just used the vehicle ID to get actual date of manufacture.

The 10th digit in my VIN is a K so mine was built between August 88 and July 1989. But it was first registered in Jan 1989 after the camper conversion so it would be an 88 build I reckon.

Cheers, Peter from Port

Scott,

The round headlights had nothing to do with year model, but what options were ordered by Ateco/TKM. The round headlights were available until 1992.

imported to Australia the first 3 got round headlights - just thought I
was lucky to miss that!

Simon Matthews had one with round headlights, no clock and spare wheel in the back. I just wish that I had taken the details. I would like to know what year models the early ones were.

Hart bought one of them I think in 87 - the bronze silver twin diff-locked one which was bought by the guys from Camperize who then  T-boned a policeman's wife's commodore and split it in half. Then he had it fixed and put in twin-headlights.

I saw a white round headlight syncro about 3 years ago in Gosford near the swimming pool next to Gosford Sailing Club - but sadly - I've never seen it since.

Yes that was rather silly!
