Old Yella Diff Loc Trouble shouting ?

Tried the diff Loc and the lights came on momentarily then gone?

Thought might be a vac leak

What's the best way to trouble shoot

Been sitting so might be the pin seized

But would like to check the vac system first so finger over the end test ?

Switch seems very loose in its movement ?

Any tips

Where does the vac come from on the plenum ? I Cant see it ?

Will have to check the manual but this forum has more experience than my manual

Thanks in advance

PS the wiring system in the Trakka is very sad nothing clipped or shielded all laying in the inner sills looks quite agricultural?

Just been through this...again.
My procedure to get it working is:
Jack up both rear wheels and remove right hand rear wheel.
Unbolt the drive shaft and tie it out of the way.
Remove the vacuum actuator. The rubber cover slides back and use a pin punch to remove the little pin.
Start the engine and have someone pull the switch. Check it is moving in and out (mine always works at this stage). You can hold the vacuum actuator pin to provide resistance.

It is always the main shaft (in my case) going into the gear box that seizes.
Manually work the shaft in and out with some fine oil (engine off).
The differential locking sleeve only engages when the splines are aligned so you have to rotate either wheel.
Also check the gearbox oil level (consider changing it). The internal mechanism might be covered in gearbox muck.

Pete. If you run the motor for a few minutes to let the vacuum system to charge up then turn motor off, dive underneath car and listen sometimes can hear a leak. Particularly around vacuum resevoir and the one way valve just near resevoir. Of course it may be difficult to hear with all those birds chirping in the rainforest outside your shed. Bill
Thanks Bill will do I thought I could hear air hissing but the loc switch appears a bit easy to pull push than my other one. Got out the Bentley but could not find much in the index.
The birds are a bit quiet today due to the heat so will try. Where does the vac connect to the motor ?
Cheers pete

This time I found another cause for the rear difflock seizing. The actuator shaft was binding.
Just by sucking on the tubes you should be able to get it to work.
A little silicon grease fixed it.

And yet another cause. The small rubber hose that connects the vacuum line to the actuator had a small crack.
Only way to find that was to pull it all out.

Hey Bill

Let her run for a bit knob out under the van and the little valve was humming ? Could not hear any air but the valve humming makes me think air is going somewhere?

Light did come on momentarily again but off just as quick.

Could not get the knob off the end of the shaft to remove the switch valve any tips don't want to break anything so did not force the issue?

Will give it a few circles L & R with the knob out and see if it engages when im through giving it a clean out.

At the moment trying to understand the electrics bits Trakka fitted cant believe the discoloured 25 + yr old solar panels are still showing some current. But the wiring trakka fitted is letting it down?

Cheers Pete

Pete. If you can hear a whistle through that vacuum one way valve its not holding vacuum. Remove the valve and blow suck through it you may clear a bit of dirt. Otherwise replace it. I bought one through vancafe or justkampers. Cant remember but was cheap and fixed my problem. Same symptoms, light came on momentarily but would not hold. The fact the light comes on at all means the actuator shaft is moving , i'm pretty sure. good luck. Bill
