Pinz spotted in Brisbane

Spoted this Late model 6×6 Pinz in Brisbane. Ex Fire Brigade Imported from the Uk got to climb in and take a few photos.  Surprising that there is not alot of room in them for how big they are. This one was auto. A later model with 5 Cylinder vw diesel power plant.  At $400 per tyre I woild not like the running costs and the low highway speed.   Looks menacing thought - big cousin of Syncro..  Not sure what the owner had in mind for it..  Taking private school leavers  to a formal perhaps? ; )

Super cool! They do lack a vital attribute of a camper in a nation as big as ours - highway legs. Would be a great toy though. Gregor

G’Day All,

It’s a P93 imported from the UK…..the new owner has been hanging out to get it.

Only the later AT manufactured Pinzgauers had the VW TD 5 cylinder motors, whereas the earlier SDP (and early AT units) Pinzgauers had the VW 2.4, 6 cylinder TD’s (D24T)

Early version had a non-intercooled motor, but P93’s had an intercooler fitted.

Part of the reason the Pinzgauers were fitted with VW diesels is a direct result of Steyr Puch working with VW to develop the Syncro system at the time…..it’s believed that this was a mutual/part payment system

I’m currently restoring a similar unit, but it won’t be ready for some years yet.
