Hi Syncronauts.
About 18 months ago I had the 930’s
installed. The GoWesty kit came with beefed up cv’s and a crystal clear installation instruction sheet…should have been straightforward for an experienced mechanic…not so.
After months and months of continually shearing the 2 engine mount bolts at the back and getting them replaced with stronger types, it finally became apparent that the instructions were not followed correctly and that the 4 cv’s were installed the wrong way around, which limited the lateral movement of the axles over rough ground, thus putting undue pressure on those bolts, via the transmission and engine.
I never took the Syncro back to that mechanic because I assumed (wrongly) that everything was installed simply and correctly and it was some other cause…engine, shockers, suspension, gearbox, the drive system…the driver.
Anyway, there’s lots of other details I won’t go into here…but the main thing is if others were to go down the same track, make sure the instructions are followed correctly.
Thanks to all the guys on here that listened and helped me out…we got there in the end.
Merry Christmas and safe travels.

Wow Gerry, they must be very strong CVs to tear bolts apart rather than break the CV or something inside the engine/ gearbox.
Totally agree regarding mechanics - there can be a huge difference between and good and bad one.
I thought there was always grooves or markings to show the outer or inner face?
At least it is now sorted.
Yes Scott, the groove is very obvious…
It’s machined on the outer round casing towards 1 flat face.

This was the cause of your broken bolts? Wow I never would have thought to look that far down the rabbit hole.
Glad to hear you got it sorted,
And merry Xmas
Thanks Nils.
Hope you have some great times in your Westie in '23.
