I am putting together a poster that can be displayed whenever we have
a get-together. I would like to get a pic of a RHD TriStar. Has
anyone got one?

There is one in the miscelaneous folder.

Phill
Phill,

I saw that one earlier.  I have been trying to find a RHD example, but without alloy wheels and highway tyres.  If all else fails, I will mirror image a LHD !

By the way, was the Vanfest in UK?

All Tri Stars had alloy wheels/street tyres and that one is RHD.

Phill,

I stand corrected but if ever there was a contradiction in terms, this has to be it.  I was of the impression that the 16" RHD TriStar was actually built to compete in the 1990 Australian Safari, but I am probably wrong there also.

.

No the 16" was not a Tri Star. All Tri Stars are 14". The only one in Australia is the red one.

Hi ,

Been on the list for a while but havent been posting yet, a
syncronaut from sweden , been living there for 2 years but orginal
dutch, wrote this website a few years ago

www.home.zonnet.nl/syncro4wd

anyway some answers regarding 16inch and tristar.

Not all Tristars are delivered with alloy wheels. In sweden it was an
extra option. There all Tristars were delivered with steelies and
caps.
There seems to be one orginel 16inch Tristar, its owned by a
collecter in austria. Its build by VW special works.
Furthermore there are more orginal RHD syncro 16inches out there.

Whats I know off:

2x pickup 16inch in australia
1x pickup 16inch in germany (spotted last year)
1x pickup 16inch in belgium (www.busman.be)
1x bus 16inch in South-Africa
1x bus 16inch in germany (spotted 2 years ago)

These are the ones which are confirmed , anybody know more RHD
16inches? (orginal , not rebuild 14inches)

Erwin, Sweden

hi, i have a 16" doka, it was bought direct from the forestry commision in sweden, it WAS lhd but i converted it to RHD myself, (the only guy to do it??) its a conversion i wouldn't reccomend.
my doka is totally stock exept, bull bar winch bracket, cupboards, and roll out tray in cubby hole, alloy sides, fibreglass top, the oddest thing is an audi 5 cyl 2ltr diesel conversion, this was done for the forestry people but i think the van was a 1.6 diesel when new.
the only 16" i know of in oz is the ex support vehicle doka, you will have seen the pictures of it ploughing thru a sand dune and doing a jump on a beach! that was the only RHD 16" made itwasa one off and doesn't exist on files.
there was another 16" pannel van brought out for the rally australia again as a support vehicle but it seems to have dissapeared, possible went back to vw in germany!? hope this is of help, the16 in oz is in wangara, i hope to meet with the guy one day!! cheeers jon

The 16" panel van is now owned by Yurik in Perth and the 16" D/Cab is
now Sydney or Melbourne based owned by.......
.................owned by Mark Boys, I believe, and registered (Vic) SYNCRO.

Sorry Phil, you right a correction here , 1x pickup and one panelvan.

The one from busman is a 100% confrimed RHD 16inch from the factory.
They were once (2x) ordered from a dealer in the UK but never went to
the UK , they have been standing at a delaer in germany for a long
time and only in 94 or 95 they came on the road.
