Hi Mark,

Do they need to be parts off a syncro with power steering? (remember all telstra syncros were ordered with power steering).

There are always a few 2wd Caravelle GL's getting wrecked/ parted out so someone may have a set.

I am not sure if Syncro PS is any different. Probably not.
I’d prefer to go factory hydraulic. Did look at electric, but I think not.

Also I think I saw someone with a high torque starter for a Syncro.
Might be interested in that.

I’m rebuilding engine to DJ specs with mild CB Performanc cam and Megasquirt
Fuel injection.

Yep, on the sunshine coast.

Sliding windows? Not sure?
The upgrade is reasonably achievable, I use rubber hydraulic hose to feed the rack from the pump. And plain rubber oil circulation hose for the return line. I put an oil cooler and filter on the return line.
The fiddly part was altering the intermediate steering shaft from right angle box to rack.
The non PS shaft is too long, so I cut mine and joined it with a solid shaft, rolled pins, and then welded it.
You need the S.S universal which replaces the rubber flex coupling.
I reconditioned the rack before installing it.
Wheel alignment when complete.
Don't know about idle rpm for stock engine, mine is a Subaru 2.2 and it handles the PS at idle. Some engines pickup the rpm at idle when PS pressure goes up; when you turn the steering wheel at idle.
Probably left out a few bits in this description.

I used a pair of Speedhut gauges. My reason initially was to get a GPS speedo to overcome the 16" diameter wheels which were 14". The GPS is 100% accurate and comes with a whole bunch of features like a compass in the odometer display slot. The wiring is easy too. Only issue I have had is the other gauge which is a speedhut 4x gauge cluster. The oil pressure on this was a saga, another story. Check it out their website.
