Radiator Shroud

Another lesson in T3s. I had recent overheating trouble that I eventually traced to a cracked bracket on the radiator shroud. It stopped the fan from turning on our recent trip to Carnarvon Gorge. I suspect the damage was caused by the rough roads on our Cape York trip last year. Photo below of the crack. I did a temp fix with cable ties. I found a used one from a guy in Perth through the T3 Facebook site. Got it here and cleaned it up, got rid of a bit of rust and resprayed.
When my mechanic went to fit it yesterday, it was the wrong size for the fan motor. Turns out there are two versions. The bigger version was for cars with factory A/C and I think became standard in later models. So mine takes the bigger 450W motor. Photo of the two side by side is below.
I am getting mine repaired and I will give it a refurb as well before getting it fitted. Getting the coolant replaced and a pressure check in case there is any damage from the overheating.
You live and learn!!!
I now have a shroud for sale that takes the smaller 300W fan motor.
Cheers and happy syncroing, Peter

Peter,
The 2wd version is the one you just bought.
The syncro one is a monster and it is the weight and power of that motor that fatigues the steel and buggers it.
Might be worth welding up your old one.
I might have a spare shroud but I think it has a fatigue crack too.
Will try and find it tomorrow.

Yes Scott. It’s very solid. Anyway, it is currently being repaired and some extra strengthening of the top bracket that cracked. I will get it back this week and then also get rid of rust and refurb the beast. We are off to the Whitsundays on Friday for a week so it won’t be for the next ten days. So don’t worry about finding yours. All will be well. I will update the post in due course.
Cheers, Peter

Peter, do you know by any chance what diameter the fan is?

Cheers Arne

I have a spare fan in both the syncro and 2wd versions if Peter doesnt get a chance to measure it.

Sorry Arne. I only just saw your post. I will measure the hole in the morning. My repaired one is back in the van.

Arne. Here is a photo from under the car. I estimate the hole is 120 mm in diameter. Cheers, Peter
