Cut some of the old rubber away at the glass side. It will make the glass come out easier. Remove your wiper arms.

Clean the metal around the rubber seal and polish. This will make the new
rubber slide on much easier and protect the paint and stop corrosion. Usr a
good quality new rubber and tell the fitter that if he uses any sealant that
you will break both his legs.
There are good and bad winscreens. Maybe Steve Muller might know which to
use.
