re: Mobil 1 source in Sydney

All,

Anyone think this Mobil 1 price , sourced in Eastwood, Sydney can be bettered elsewhere?

Ken. That price is amazing. With the 6 quarts that works out to 5.675 litres at $65.00. I paid $94.95 here in Port for 5 litres of that wonderful oil. Is it for real or has it “fallen off the back of a truck” as we say?

Peter,
I'm somewhat bemused at the apparent lack of interest here to my post.
This supplier has been around selling these products there for quite some time so they're not fly-by-nighters.

So it works out at around $57.26 for 5 litres. ... for MOBIL 1!!

Still I've not been there to check it out, but the next time I'm down there, I just may. At that price, especially for local pickup, looks to me to be rather irresistible, especially as we can also use it in our Honda CRV as well.
Cheers.
Ken

Peter / Ken,

Can we really evaluate what oil is good, better, best ?? Sure, Mobil has a good name to it and let's hope the oil isn't anyone letting down.

In this context I just wanted to mention that the Tristar has done 390 000km and for 340 000 km ( I bought it with 50 on the clock ) it had to make do with one type

of oil which I buy at the local ag wholesaler. It is FUCHS german tech. TITAN universal HD 15/40 (CF - 4/SJ ). I have always bought a few 20ltr drums at a time,

so the last ones I bought  say 2 years ago at  $ 85.-- per 20 ltr drum. Have to find out how much they are charging these days, possibly similiar to Mobil ?

Will  be interesting to find out.    Hartmut

Skot,

I never knew of the FUchs company until I came to Oz Very interesting i found their web/s with special gear oil mentined for the Syncro ! And also different engine oil  specs .from what I use.
Like quite a few of us, I am quite taken by the fact that a co goes into the trouble to specify oils and coolant for a Syncro. Just  google Fuchs.

Hart
I've always used Fuchs Ultralube 1540 in my 1Z TDI but I see
they recommend Titan Supersyn.

Hart, Fuchs products are great, just hard to find. You promted me to have a look at their web site and I noticed that the recommend the same gl5 for the diff AND the g/box! Can't be right. They say titansinto fluid 75w-80 GL5 for both. I think the g/box should have titansinto fluid 75w GL4. My German is not great, you might send an email if you want to use it. Greg E

Greg,

Yes there's been a lot of hype started by VW itself 20 years ago about the need for GL4 for the gearbox and GL5 for the diff. Basically a load of rubbish.

Rudi runs GL5 in both in his syncros and when I was there, he put GL5 in both for my syncro and no doubt many others. Rudi is a syncro drivetrain expert bar none, trained by VW, worked for VW in Europe.

If you want to pursue this hype further, give him a ring of an evening at Bribie Island.

Cheers.

I don't believe any of those catalogues. Most of them just make it up as they go. Have a look at the OME shock listings.
