Re: Re: [Syncro_T3_Australia] Deep Cycle Batteries That fit under the Passenger Seat

Thanks Phill.

My Subaru 6cyl has various bits in these holes and hence it wont work. My under seat area is also full. Under the front passenger seat is my only option.

Cheers,

Scott,

That (44ah) sounds like a very small battery to run a fridge for long.

Optima are the better of the spiral agm batteries.
Give these guys a call. They deliver and prices are usually good. www.batteriesdirect.com.au/

Have you thought of batteries under the back seat? Or beside the engine where the diesel battery is located?

I haven't seen a deep cycle that will fit. 280L x 175W x 175H

I use a Federal 691MF but I don't have a fridge to deep cycle it.

A 44ah may only work your fridge for a few hours.

Scott,
Concerning the topic of "camping battery", there are so many variables that need to be taken into account so as to arrive at what may still prove to only be a compromise. I fear that based upon the limited info you have provided so far re your own family/van circumstances, especially with a self imposed time limit ... I suspect you will be heading for a fall .... ain't gunna work m8y. Especially if you hope to do more than ONE day camping AWAY from ac and/or solar power and/or long drives to recharge but you dearly still want to avoid egg on face when the princesses and your better half in unison complain about the warm fridge and the rotting provisions. This happened to some on the Batemans Bay Tour 2007, despite having a larger camping battery and driving every day, just for starters.

If I were you, I'd be deferring the decision about the fridge/camping battery combo until such time as you carry out a detailed research on this complex topic. I know hindsight is just sooooooooo great, but really, the pre-allocation of space for an adequate sized/type camping battery plus choices of supplementary battery charging systems for your camping needs, particularly if you need adequate multi day running of a fridge, all this should have been sorted/earmarked years ago near the start of your conversion.

So at this stage, in my view, under the circumstances as you have described, hold off on committing to what you seem to be heading toward and instead till you sort this properly, limit to one day picnics and frozen bricks in an esky. M8y, this temp solution should work just fine.

As a pretty rough rule of thumb, whatever YOU are thinking at the moment re camping battery size, probably triple or quadruple it and add 160 watt minimum solar!

Good luck. Cheers.

Ken

The only battery to suit your needs would not contain lead/acid and could cost many thousands of $.

I have heard of success with Toyota Prius batteries if you wish to search a few wreckers.

They are similar to mobile phone batteries. You would have to find the details and what packs that they come in. You may need 4 of them or you may need 20 of them, I don't know the specifications. You would have to by them from a wreck as new ones would be worth more than your syncro.
