re: Rear Hatch Gas Struts on eBay store

All,
Just fitted a pair of these today ...
Goto: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TAILGATE-GAS-STRUT-VW-VOLKSWAGEN-TRANSPORTER-79-92_W0QQitemZ360223745773QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item53df0226ed

These are fabulous, made in Europe, hatch now functions like never before, goes up gently and fully unaided, stays up, no more sagging, doesn't mind the extra weight of carpet and blinds etc of the Trakka fitout.

I reckon these are being sold off, so get in early. Save shipping costs also if you can pickup at Box Hill VIC.

Highly recommended improvement. Sale item is for one only, so tell the seller you need two.

Thanks for this - I just ordered these last week from Euro Imports via ebay - they were helpful and just arrived today.

Any tips for the install?

Regards
Mark.

Mark,

They are usually very simple and just involve circlips.

Make sure you don't lose them when prying them out with a screw driver.

Other than that Just have a helper lift the tailgate as high as possible whilst you fit each side. Do one side at a time and have a tentpole to hold the load in between. Just stick the pointy end of the ten pole in the tailgate latch that way it doesn't scratch the paintwork.

I managed to do both of mine by myself. Not easy but doable.

Cheers,

Scott

Mark,
You just need to wedge up the door fully open while completing the changeover one strut at a time. I simply measure/cut/install a piece of say 2x1 inch timber for that. Take the opportunity to clean/de-rust the fittings at both ends where the struts install and also apply some lubricating grease. Pretty straightforward really, unlike the mindfield that presents when changing the poptop struts .... now that was "interesting"!
