Ken, hi

I just wonder how on earth does one know that this is a VAG publication which covers our whole range of T3 on 45 pages! Our trusty/rusty Bentleys used a few more trees to archive that. hartis

Seems like a publication well worth having.

I would definitely like to learn more about our unusual vehicles.

Thanks in advance.

You would know all of the information in it anyway.
All,
You gotta hand it to the americans, they sure know how to work a crowd.
What I paid $10 for at a VW swap meet is now almost $AU100 including shipping .... and probably it'll go higher with a day still to run.
Phill, you're sitting on a small fortune on US eBay!

See, Ken. If you were to go to a typical 'American' VW event such as
Bug-O-Rama, there is a good chance you can find that publication for
$10. But like the lottery, you don't know what you can get for your
$10 until you play.

eBay is an a world of it's own. A couple of years back, I found an
small quantity if T3 RHD PS racks. The market for them here is from
nil to zero. IIRC I posted them pm this forum for about US$300. I
believe or or two of you took advantage of the offer. Then there were
none. I posted the rest on eBay and they sold to Kiwis and Aussies
from US$500-US$760. I probably would have gotten $50 to nothing had I
dragged it to one of the local swap meets. Unfortunately, the importer
saw those eBay prices and raised the list price on his remaining stock.

..........and that's just for a crap training brochure! I still have an original factory VHS tape that goes with that and it's still in its original packaging..

Some of the factory workshop manuals I bought brand new and they have never been soiled etc!

Everyone hold on to your Aussie T25 workshop manual disks, they will be worth something one day.
I love US swap meets! Back in '93 I picked up a Digifant ECU for $10 in LA.

I sold 4 Bathurst programs for $800 on eBay!

Imagine if I had have had them signed by Peter Brock or Alan Moffat, which I could have done easily at the time!
yeah and the absolute waterfront beach house we rented for $40 a week at Pearl Beach in the 70's and we had first refusal to buy it at a paltry $65k, the block now is worth millions! Location, location, location.

Dammit, I could have assembled by now a stable of syncro variants!

The missed opps in life eh.

Guessing some of us are hoard... I mean collectors. I have an original
microfiche reader with the fiches for various VW's including the
Syncro T3 from when my local VW dealer went o ETKA.

When I finally go "bye-bye" as my galpal calls it, my kids will either
set it as a part of a museum exhibit in my honor or sell the package
at a local swap meet for $10 plus a corndog.

Mebe-bebe I ought be eBaying the lot now.

The rest of us use ETKA.

Do you only have North American fiche like ETKA or is it the world fiche like we had?

Had both orange and grey. The orange was a but banged up as it was the
one the shop guys used. I passed that one on to a local shop which
deals with my VW's.

These were from a US dealer so I assumed US fiches only. I've never
investigated if there was any difference because I already had both
North American and World ETKA on my possession by the time I acquired
the fiche reader. US dealers were already on ETKA years before they
let their fiche readers go. It took that long before the parts
managers either gained confidence on ETKA or problems with program
resolved.

On a side note, I bought several fiches ranging from US$10-US$23 for
single fiches years before I acquired the machine -- on eBay. Got the
reader along with whatever it came with for the price of lunch.

Bet I would have had to pay $10 at a swap meet.;-)

Sure... In the world of NOT!

IIRC, VW dealers here are on some other system now. I don't think it
is even related to ETKA. It's an online system which allows them to
log onto VW's central computer to retrieve information such as SKC
(secret key code) for newer VW's with immobilizer keys.

Even my independent VW repair shop pulls out a small laptop to look
over schematics and such as they work on newer cars. They work on
enough T3's that nobody around there seems to need any reference
material. I show the parts guy an item, he quotes the partnumber by
heart. Those are what I call pros. Your never find a fiche reader
among their wrenches.
>

BenT
I've had fiche since the '80s!

I've also got some of the pre fiche part books!

Come to Oz. Walk into any VW outlet, they've never seen a T3 let alone know a part!

That's Elsawin and the newer versions don't even have T3s.
