re Swapping in an ex vanagon instrument cluster with tacho

Gday ALL,

Anyone else besides Ralph has already done this procedure and can offer a suggestion please.

I've got my own original and an ex vanagon instrument cluster with tacho on my workbench at the moment, preparing the ex vanagon one for swapping in.

All well so far until I started on swapping out the miles/klm speedo out of the ex vanagon cluster so I can then swap in my klm speedo. I see on the speedo head, the blue coloured flat circuit foil connects to the head with 6 connectors ... looking at it, seems the flat foil has the 6 female connectors which slide into place onto the 6 male connectors on the head. Correct? So I assume the flat circuit foil has to slide sideways off the 6 head connectors but the trick is ... the flat foil has to come off all 6 connectors at the same time! Looks pretty tricky!

So my query is  ... how to do this procedure without damaging the foil? .. all 6 connectors seem to be quite rigid in place, using excessive force to separate them all together, I see a huge risk of something going awry and end up damaging the foil at the 6 connectors.

Just wondering then can anyone remember what technique was used to remove the circuit foil from the speedo head, without damaging anything? Was a lubricant spray such as CRC-226 used first on the 6 connectors to help loosen them?

Have I missed something else with this procedure? Hope someone can help. TIA.

Cheers.

Ken

I've pulled those foul PC's a number of times. I've found quite sturdy.
