Re: [Syncro_T3_Australia] 25 years Syncro - VW Nationals Confirmed

Guys

I am happy to advise that the Club President will set aside a special display area for the 25th Anniversary display of the Syncros at the forthcoming VW Nationals in May. The President has set aside one row in the display area for this special occasion.

Details:

Date: Sunday 23rd May 8am
Fairfield Showgrounds
Smithfield Rd Prairiewood

There is no special prep required except to turn up nice and early and enter the Show - ($15 - Cat 46 - VW Factory Off Road Watercooled). This is only $5 dearer than parking in the carpark and walking in - so please bring your Syncro to the display area and enjoy the company and discussions with other Syncro owners.

We hope to attract perhaps up to 20 Syncros on the day - we hope you can be one of them.

Confirmed so far are Mark, Ken, Hart and Scott.

Please let us know your intentions to come such that we can keep the organisers up to date and ensure enough display area is allocated.

Regards
Mark.

No not even close. I assumed you knew EXACTLY where Ric always parks AND undercover ... as I said ... out the back (of the building). This is out of the sun, handy to the display action, swap sites and right next to the p.m. award presentations.

See the attached pic. So either tape off a northerly heading portion of the rear-most single row parking starting from Rics car OR else directly inwards from Rics car, tape off a square formation from the adjacent double row parking.

Clear as mud?

Hi Ken

Good ideas ref taping off area etc.

I have put the idea to the Club - I have had a VERY positive response from 1 of the 3 or 4 key people, and he has encouraged the others to back that idea. So we'll see what turns up over the next 24 hours.

It has been suggested so far, as you suggest, to park just outside the undercover area in a large group, which is I think where you think Rick parks. Might have to look at a Google Map / Image of the site to pinpoint.

I've made a custom map - http://bit.ly/cLOR01

Is this right?

Mark.

Mark,
Ok thanks for that. Now if the National webmaster could set out charges unambiguously i.e., either/or and no room for questioning re cumulative, that'd be really useful. So it's a steal @ $15 a syncro/driver combo plus $10 for a passenger.

This entry "workaround" then looks quite doable for linking up on the day. Just need to all be there at a pre-determined a.m. timeslot to facilate group entry through the gate. Confirming asap numbers participating would really help a lot with planning.

Any chance Mark, once numbers involved firm up, the Nationals organisers might temporarily tape off an area up to say 9.30 - 10am, say out the back where Ric parks? Either a line of syncros along that rear isle or the other thought is a square area again out the back near Ric but the next back to back isle in, then syncros would be more closely contained in a square formation and that may facilitate placement of a syncro 25 years themed display/promo. Isn't Ric involved with this VW Nationals show setup, he can perhaps help with facilitation "internally"?

Just as it was for me 4 years ago, attending this 2010 VW show presents as an excellent opportunity for older/newer list members to link up, especially worthwhile for all the newer list members located in and around the Sydney region, perhaps attending the Nationals for the first time.

Ken,

The premium will be $5.

As I understand it there is:

- a pedestrian entry fee of $10.
- Car Show Entry fee of $15 per category. Max 2 categories.

Speaking with the organisers just recently, it was confirmed to me that the entry to the car show included the entry of the driver of the displayed vehicle.

Therefore, to assemble the Syncros together with the Car Display area would attract a 'premium' of $5.

Mark.

PS - As a comparison, entry to Show'n'Shine in Victoria is $20, including driver and passenger. So for those travelling solo, they are $5 worse off, and for those travelling as a pair/couple, $5 better off.

Be that as it may and failing all else and so we all know, to get a syncro group assembled outside the gate early (as they suggest doing on their website at: http://www.clubvw.org.au/ ) and then enter the hallowed space together so we all end up together, preferably undercover and say for example, located at the back where Ric usually parks his syncro, how do their entry fees work? Is the $15 car show category fee or the $20 swap meet fee additional to the $10 pedestrian entry fee or do either of those fees displace the pedestrian fee? It's somewhat ambiguous on their website. So lookers would pay $10 entry, car showers $15 or $25 and swap meeters either $20 or $30, depending upon how they charge. Anyone know?

Cheers.

Doubtful that it will happen without paying the cash.
We will just have enter the show or swap meet.

Nationals are coming up on 23rd May at Fairfield Showground and we're lining up as many Syncros as possible for a 25th Anniversary display (Germans can't have all the fun at Mammut Park can they?)

So far I understand the following are coming

Mark
Ken
Murray
Hart
Scott
Rick
Peter (Coe)

Please don't forget to register - you can do this online - $15.68 including the transaction fee with Paypal.

Event is VW Nationals at Fairfield Showground 23rd May. Parking for the special display is here (I understand) - http://bit.ly/cahI33

Cost per vehicle is $15 and this includes 1 Adult entry (which is normally $10 anyway - so only costs $5 extra to display the vehicle).

Registration is available online here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/nats10/index.php?sid=52911

Instructions are:

1. Register & Confirm email address
2. Complete "survey" based registration including description of vehicle & Rego Plate #
3. Select "VW Factory Off Road Vehicles (Standard & Modified)"
4. Pay via Paypal
5. Print receipt and take with you to Nationals. It will show your plate number.

Let us know you have registered!

Regards
Mark.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Regards

Mark.

Hi Mark. We have registered. Looking forward to it.

Peter

Well I have been busy cleaning and checking out my new Syncro (or Bully as my wife calls it).

It does not have a hot water capacity as advertised. No surprise here. It does have two stainless steel water tanks which are connected and two pumps, hence two buttons under the sink. This may have led to the confusion re hot water. Why you would need two buttons with tanks that are connected I don’t know?

As per previous post, need new shockers all round and new tyres. OME’s on order. I would like VW alloys as well. Started searching.

Annexe looks like a rocket launcher and I have seen some on USA sites and travel blogs. Called a Trans Awn 2000. What a name!!!!

Biggest frustration is the instrument cluster. Odometer only has 5 digits and the red 100 m digit. Advertised as doing 177,000 but with no 100,000 digit and any service schedules how do I know it has not done 277,000? No trip meter either. The RH side has a big dial with no clock or rev counter, only temp and fuel gauge. Looking into this issue but I suspect it will be tricky!!!!

But having said that it goes really well and the interior is in first class condition. Once new  shocks are in it will be time for an exploratory 4WD road trip with Hart’s Tristar maybe.

Regards to all from Port Macquarie, Peter

Peter,

I have the same instrument cluster.

I was going to change it for a trip meter and tacho US one, but the MPH and fact I have a 6 Cyl and not a 4 Cyl changed my mind.

The GPS tells me where I am anyway plus how fast I'm going so who cares! I put an aftermarket small tacho in and it works fine.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Peter,
Sorry, I've not followed all your posts to know the exact nature of your conversion, however most operate by engaging van cabin heater on while driving giving you hot water when you stop. The water is heated in much the same way as the warm heater air. Have you tried this? Mine works very effectively.
Cheers Murray

Many thanks Phil. Good to know these details. How do you find out these details? Do you have a register?

My mobile is 0418 680 189 and hence, ring or text around say 8:30ish and we can arrange a spot to meet. I thought there was a little alcove on Marsden Rd, near the corner of Marsden Rd and Pennant Hills Rd. Maybe that could work.

Graham and I will be convoying down together and hence we should be hard to miss!

Let me know if you have a better spot to pull over on that crazy Pennant Hills Rd.

Cheers,

Scott
