Re: [Syncro_T3_Australia] 930 CV upgrade

Hi Neil,
Thanks for the info, gives me something to investigate. I will pull the boots off and have a look. Always handy to hear from someone with expertise in such things.

Cheers,
Michael Roberts

I am running genuine Lobro Porsche 930 CVs on my offroad T2. The vehicle is only lifted 25mm above stock height but has an extra 50mm of down travel. I went with the 930s because I was worried about them popping out on full suspension droop.
My thoughts now are that I really didn't need them.
Unless you run an offroad style boot that goes over the whole CV outer, you don't gain much travel because the standard boot flange has a small hole which fouls on the shaft at large angles. I run aftermarket boots that go over the CV Outer. If you did this with a standard VW joint I think you would get good travel.
This may be happening with your VW ones. You need to jack the vehicle up so the wheels are dangling with the boots off to see whether the shafts are clearing the outers and that the balls are tracking within the edge of the joint.
Also timing the joints could net a little extra travel.
Having smaller CVs could be an advantage in that you want them to fail before internal gearbox parts and the 930s are much stronger. I have never known a VW CV to fail anyway,

Neil.

Hi,
Finally got my off-roader up in the air where I wanted it,
but now on the limits of the CV’s. Took it for a drive and the CV’s were
noisier than I would like, could be the balls just running in a new position
but would not like to push it off-road and get stuck. So looking at 930 CV’s and shafts and 16”
front outers for more articulation. Is anyone running them and how do they find
them?

Cheers,

Hello all. After the posts on the wind deflectors, Mark did a final post with a link to the Van Café site. They have some German made ones which look great and fit well according to reports from those in the know. Link below.

http://www.van-cafe.com/home/van/page_80_568/wind_and_rain_deflector_pair.html

I checked out freight and it would be around $70 for one pair. Too much!!!

So I am prepared to co-ordinate a group buy to reduce the freight costs.

If I get enough takers I will get a price, work out the unit cost and then place an order once I have the cash from those who would like a set.

Please let me know by COB on Friday 15 Feb if you are interested.

Peter from Port

Peter,

Again these are the ones that just go over the top - they dont stop the bugs getting into your teeth on the freeway!

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Ben,

If Peter isn't interested I would be.

Are they the slip the under the rubber ones or do you need to drill holes to attach them.

What colour tint are they grey, green or blue?

I can be contacted directly at   kolevas@bigpond.com

Thanks

Peter,

After 3 dabs of supa glue along the top of each weathersheild - they are sensational and cant leak as they are up in under the window seal.

I had the other old type that fitted to the outside face of the window and they leaked like a sieve - absolutely useless in rain and would pull away at the base when driving at speed.

The new ones however - work perfect in all conditions and are not so bulky you cant adjust the mirror or wave @ another syncro going the other way.

Cheers,

Skot

Further to my previous post on the DubFlecta's, I must have jinxed things as they now appear to be moving south more than before. So much so they the top edge is visible and I spend quite a bit of time pushing them back up.

I contacted the chap at http://www.dubflecta.co.uk about the clips. They are out of stock but he has said he will send some gratis when they get them back in. No reason to think they won't arrive but unsure if he banked on posting to Aus. Worth an email if you are having issues.

Jon.
