Ok change of subject

If you have power windows and are thinking of fitting the weather shields from Mr Kuch from st Clair I have encountered this problem ;

1.       When the weather shield is fitted it narrows the window channel clearance to the glass causing more friction as the glass goes up and down;

2.       The window rise and lower assembly has two 90 degree wire guides one at the top and one at the bottom the top one is fitted with a metal rivet, the lower with a plastic unit, with the increased tension on the drive the lower rivet fails with this happens the wire rope looses it tension and then the wire proceeds to unravel in the gearbox drum drive unit and makes a mess to untangle, one has to access the drum unit, reinstall the cable and put back, so the purpose of this note is if you are in this situation replace the plastic pin with a metal pop rivet or screw and nut before you fit the weather shield, it will save you a lot of anguish as I encountered as I had both sides fail..

Regards

Bob,

I ran into a similar problem with mine and decided to trim the inner edge off the upper section of the bailey channel to give sufficient clearance. I needed this the most on the passenger side where the channel was still fairly tight . My drivers side glass used to rattle even when fully closed as the channel was squashed so badly so the shields basically fixed that issue immediately.

My plastic rollers that guide the stainless wire on the passenger side used to fail regularly until I took them to my Dads hydraulic engineering shop and he made up some new brass ones on the lathe. They have been brilliant ever since and much stronger than the plastic rubbish they replaced.

I also glued my weathersheilds to the rubber channel to ensure they stay out of the way of the glass.

Works well.

I would suggest getting a new Stanley knife and trim the inner rubber to allow clearance just where the weather shield is.

Worked for mine.

Cheers,

Skot

Fair comment, one question was the upper and lower guide a 90 degree unit , it would be interesting if you could post a diagram of what you did, another thing I found that when the passenger side unit glass moved up down the deflector moved from its mounted position, the deflectors are a great unit far better than the standard full deflector.

Bob

Hi Guys,
I installed the weathershields on a hot day and followed the you tube instructions on the "Campervan Culture" installation video. The top of the shield is a tight fit at first however being maliable it moulds in to the window frame well. I left the window wound up on the first day and the hot weather helped to mould it into the perfect fit with no cutting or gluing required. A little more pressure on the window winder and I can see that may be a potential mechanical problem for the motor on electric windows. The window rattle I had with window half down previously is almost non existent now. They look and work very well. Ill try to attach a pic.
Cheers Dave
