Before you get too excited about this, note that these are NOT genuine Syncro 16 steel wheels.btheyvare not as robust as the real deal. These are aftermarket steel wheels of much thinner gauge originally sold by Tirerack.com for US$15 each. They were originally listed for $99 each but went on overstock sale for a short time.  Brian at Small Car contacted TR and bought a large quantity after another lister and your truly posted the sale price on the Vanagon List and the Syncro List. The wheels subsequently re-priced to US$49 each before returning to US$99 once the stock was depleted. Small Car machines the lugholes so they will have the correct contour for stock T3 lugnuts & bolts.

I made the mistake of making the posting before buying a set for myself. I had to pay more as consequence. They weigh about half as much as my genuine Syncro 16 steel rims. Nevertheless, they are an acceptable alternative. If the stock T3 lugnuts are used, they will accept the original 16" centercaps. Otherwise, you need to use plastic washers or o-rings (thanks  for the idea, JFF) to hold the caps in place.

Harmut,

No need to investigate. I already posted details about this specific wheel. It is not a genuine MB rims either but rather an Italian-made aftermarket wheel.

I didn't say don't buy them. I only meant to inform that they are nit
what they appear to be. Yes, the holes are much larger. It is an
inexpensive alternative.

My apologies as I cannot recall the person's name. I sent one of these
wheels to OZ to a member of this forum. Was it Tony, maybe? I could
check the name if I were on my laptop but searches are difficult from
Les' benchgrinder. Lots if sparks but results are for the patient.

Hi BenT,

You are right, these rims must be   Italianos, I have the same ones, had them painted recently and the painter was surprised how light they    were.........

The fam. calls me Hartis for years , but nobody so far has cottoned on to what you have come up with......it truly made my day!!      hartis

I hope these really are Syncro 16 inch steel wheels.
They look suspiciously like the 16 inch aftermarket 'winter tire' Mercedes wheels, that tirerack ( www.tirerack.com ) had a couple a blow-out sale on a couple of years ago. People were buying these 16 inch mercedes wheels for something like 30 dollars US each.
( it was such a good deal for 16 inch vanagon wheels at the time, many US vanagon owners bought sets of them )

The company mentioned in the ebay add for the wheels, bought about 50 or so sets of the 'tirerack discount 16 inch mercedes aftermarket, made in Italy' wheels.  It might have been 100 sets that that company bought.  One certainly wonders if these wheels in the ad are 'those wheels.'

and, I have a North american model  Double Cab Syncro here at my shop in Oregon. The owner of it purchased 'real' 16 inch steel geniine VW wheels for it, to make a 'faux 16 inch syncro' .
I counted the circular holes  around the outside - the brake cooling holes. The guiine VW wheels here on ths syncro Doka have 14 of those holes. The wheels in the picture have many more holes that that.
I suspect these wheels are very possibly 16 inch aftermarket Benz wheels.   I examined one personally.  They are made rather lightly. The 'real' 16 inch sycro wheels are quite heavy, and made of quite thick material.  The benz wheels also have a slightly different ball face where the wheel nuts go, than a stock vanagon syncro uses.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but any purchaser might want to check it out more carefully. There should be VW markings on the wheels.
I run gunine VW south african 15 inch steel wheels on my vanagon. They have the Audi/VW symbol on them.  Prospective buyers might ask the seller on eBay about that.

You might want to be more specific with that statement. The Syncro's that came to the US with 14" steel wheels were painted black. OTOH, my Syncro 16 came with silver wheels. I have not seen any genuine Syncro 16 steel rims in anything but silver.
The aftermarket Ebay wheels in question was available in both black and silver.

Good golly, Ms. Scotty. That was yesterday's discussion. You really have to read to the bottom of the thread some with a BenT sense of humor might call you on it.
The OZ guys are tough. I suppose you have to be when your parents give you a girls name. The moderator for this group named like my ex-wife! Just kidding Mr. Harris. Any guy who can send messages with a benchgrinder has my respect.
