A mate here in Melbourne runs a strut fitting and re-gassing company. He's learnt heaps about struts, bit of a strut nut really, there are excellent ones and bad ones. He's away for this week on holiday but I could ask him on his return how much for a set of excellent struts that will last for ages and can be re-gassed when and if they ever start to fail. Might be a cheaper option when you factor in postage from the US and then distribution postage here in Australia...

Mine were ridiculous and hopeless around 6-8 years ago so about 5 years ago I got a set of Cofap struts and they have been sensational. They are very strong, German made and have been going strong ever since.

If you have ever lifted a tailgate without the struts to help (even crap dead ones) they are extremely heavy and these struts need to be very strong to cope.

Hi All,
My friend Al dropped by yesterday to check my sagging original struts. He tried to re-gas them to no avail. I now have 2 new struts which work amazingly well. As the pins on the rear opening were quite warn he also used wider fittings to solve that problem. He also installed longer ball socket fittings so the tailgate opens up higher than standard so I can easily walk underneath it.
If anyone would like to order struts from him you can call him direct, Al Barden on 0427 929 468. He has indicated a price of $77 for a set (includes GST) delivery would be approx. $15 anywhere in Australia. Modifications such as wider pin fittings, height adjustment or fitting are extra.
Maybe ends up being similar in price to Go Westy but these do however come with a 2 year replacement warranty and can be re-gassed if ever they do fail after the warranty period.
