Rear Hatch Struts

Greetings all. Does anyone know where I can source gas struts in Australia for the rear door. I want to avoid the freight/postage hassles of an overseas purchase. I put new ones on the pop top of my T3 and sourced them locally but had to get some work done to re-use the bottom brackets. They tapped a new thread and the old fittings that Trakka had used then fitted.

Peter

PS. It has actually stopped raining here. Thank goodness the Syncro handles wet roads with ease.

Peter,

They are available locally in NSW and Vic and they are not expensive.  The NSW crew will be able to give you a local supplier.  I think that Ken fitted new ones recently.

Peter,

I sourced mine (a brand made in Germany) from Peter Korsh of VW Performance @ West Gosford a couple of years ago and they cost me $90.00 for the pair. If you cant find anything better try Pete on 0243257911.

They are fairly easy to fit as there are only really clips holding them on. I used an adjustable tent pole fitted into the tailgate catch to hold the rear door up whilst fitting the new ones. That tailgate is extremely heavy but mine are still going strong 2 years later.

Ken may have a better supplier.

Cheers,

Skot

Les,
I'd suggest you add this supplier & part details to the new parts list. Full contact details are shown.

Ignore the Peugeot reference, I'd say its a typo or a rush of blood. If need be, shoot off a query first to the seller.

The sale and price shown is for one strut. I suggest ordering two.

Cheers.
Ken

Thanks Ken but they are out of stock. The guy Scott posted has some but they are the wrong part number. I think they are for a golf. The guy at Stokers has the right ones listed on his website but he is away for a day or two. Will keep hunting.

Peter

I had mine regassed. A guy turned up and but them in a hyperbaric chamber of nitrogen and turned it up. The gas goes in the seals which are one way and wont be damaged. Mine are 8 years old and are starting to sag now. I can't remember how much, but the yellow tree, sorry pages, would have a few guys. They come to you.
