Reconditioning a viscous coupling

Hi All,

The VC in my ex-telstra has gone completely passive. I've heard 'reconditioning a viscous coupling' mentioned a few times here and there. So I was wondering...

-What does it involve?
-Is the viscous coupling 'as good as new' once reconditioned?
-Is there a good person in Australia, or Sydney, who could recondition my VC?
-How much (ballpark) should I pay to have this done?

Thanks everyone! Sam

Sam,

There are very few places in the world that can recondition a VC and none in Australia .

Mike Plompen in Belgium sells both reconditioned and new couplings:

Mike is a list member and we have traded with him for many years.

I have heard there is a guy on the Mid North Coast that could do this or Rudi on Bribie Island in QLD.

Best of Luck,

Skot

Hi Skot,

Was this for reconditioning gearboxes or reconditioning VC's as well? Guess that's why I am asking what's involved in reconditioning a VC - is it something that most 'gear heads' can do? I might try giving Rudi a call tonight if I get a chance, thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers, Sam

Sam,
I've never heard that Rudi rebuilds VC's. I do know he took my passive VC out  prior to installing instead a solid shaft. Think he uses the old VCs for door stops.

Check out these links ....

Many thanks Ken. I am going to build that under body storage one day! Sam
