repirers around Sydney

Hi,
I'm sure this info is probably already on the website but I can't seem to access any old discussion threads.
Something is sounding a bit rattly on the Vee Dub. Not sure where it is comming from. It's not stones beween the engine and chassis, I solved that one a few weeks back. If I consider giving the engine a rebuild, does anyone have any recommendations for repairers in or close to Sydney?
Perhaps a gearbox rebuild - what are the name and contact details of the chap in Qld who does up gearboxes? Bribie or Stradbroke Island I think.
Cheers,
Tom

Tom,

You don’t opt for rebuilds until you have an accurate diagnosis.

There are plenty of members around the Sydney area who could help establish what problems exist as a first step before you contemplate rebuilding anything.

Mt Kuring-gai say Hornsby if you don’t know where Mt K is

Tom, is it just the tappets being rattly? Goes away after running for a while? If so, that is normal.

Not normal, but not terminal.

Caused by bad oil filters, cheap oil or leaky lifters.

Not tappets, quite familiar with that problem. Have gone out to see Steve Muller at Kombi rescue. It appears to be the ring gear and pinion. Looks like a gearbox overhaul coming up real soon.

Tom,
In my view then you have 2 choices.
Get a russian roulette overhaul in Sydney or a peace of mind overhaul by Rudi on Bribie Island. Your choice.

Thanks Ken,

I’ve have had a talk to Rudi, he obviously knows his transmissions. What about GoWesty they seem reasonable pricewise assuming freight isn’t too much. Anyone had a transmission from them?

Hi Thomas,

I don't know whether this will be of any use, but I am arranging a
shipment of 15-inch rims from Syncro Services in Germany as soon as
possible. We had another member interested in shipping a transaxle
from Syncro Services as part of our shipment, so it seems he may have
them in stock. The benefit to you would be a cheaper rate on the
shipping, as costs will be split between the group. Freight from the
US is generally very expensive, but I guess the soaring dollar might
offset that a little.

Best of luck anyway,

Francesca.
