Roger's inglorious 'shallow' Crossing

Hi Roger

You said you were interested in seeing your syncro and others photographed by a professional photographer. Well..................you asked for it.

I just want to back up what Graham said in regard to the Shallow Crossing week.It was great..... full stop. I learnt so much about about my vehicles capabilities as well as gaining a better understanding of the mechanics and inspiration for future works and conversions. I also came to appreciate the organizing put into the event by Rick as well as the observing the great father/son bond of Rick and Jade?. Not to mention the lost/found joy of an open campfire and company under the stars. It was great.

Hart. Note the big brave tough "off roaders" waiting for the water to go down. They were quite prepared to sit it out until Roger Bell and Paul Nevin showed them how it's done in a little 2.1 litre syncro. They then all of a sudden became emboldened. Power to the syncro.

Michael, when Mark and I crossed the river in the Snowys we had the same experience. We were carefully oberved by about 4or5 of these jap monstroseties who over the next 20 mins 'prepared' their prize posessions. Me being me, I asked the leader of the group if he also had a depth sounder installed and what type of life jackets they had in mind . He just looked at me not saying a word. Much later one guy, who saw Mark's  tube posting, mentioned that one of the guys got stuck in the middle of the river. Possibly the huge fan throwing waterover the power house....... Mark and I found that it was good practice to try and keep some momentum to lower the waterlevel at the back of the vehicle.    Hart

Sorry Scott -I should have made my earlier reply to your query to you rather than Ben. Apologies to you both.We had both Rogers away on this trip together so no wonder I'm having these senior moments.
Would still be interested in Michael's answer to the question and yes I do have a twin brother but no autopilot on the syncro.

Roger,

Glad to hear you drove out. I would hate to hear one of the useless Japanese things pulled you out.

You would have scared the pants off many of them and they probably turned around and went home instead of crossing the river.

Excellent job there - old boy!

Cheers,

Anyone or Les

Can someone explain to me why when I create a NEW post at Syncro_T3_Australia@yahoogroups.com it never comes through on my Gmail account like all the other posting and by thus I presume not through to others, but comes through to the official http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Syncro_T3_Australia/ site but won't display any photo's that I attach?

The only way I can send attachment photographs that can be seen is to add them to a 'reply' of an already long thread. These threads I find are to long and often end up way off the original post. Any thoughts appreciated.

The following is what I have cut and pasted from the Syncro_T3_Australia@yahoogroups.com site :

Skott/Roger.

Sorry to pull your leg re Rogers 'shallow' Crossing. It's just that around the campfire the issue of photoshop and what one could do with it came up. Rick was of the belief that anything was possible using photoshop, something that I'm generally opposed to. But in this case I thought I'd have a little fun. Attached is the true story of Rogers' crosssing and the reality is that he handled himself like a true champ. Showed up all those postulating Jap behomeths on the other side what can be done with our beautiful understated syncros. Hope you enjoyed the joke and you too Roger. I've included a larger single file of the crossing and you can see Roger in the rear view mirror is actually smiling in his hour of adversity. (I had to use photoshop to clean the bird shit off his rear view mirror) I will send more pics later.

Michael

Michael,

Not sure what is going on there, particularly the Gmail problem.   If Gmail is your only email server, it is probably down to the native settings, of which I have no knowledge.

I run my email on (Microsoft) Outlook.   If I post from the website, there is no provision to attach photos.   If I click on ‘Start New Topic’ at the end of any open message, this also takes me to the Post function on the website and hence no provision to attach anything.

This appears to bring it down to using the Reply function in an open message.   You can remove any or all of the previous messages before you send it and you can also change the subject line so that your ‘reply’ gets its own subject.

All this is a bit on the clunky side, I know, and Yahoo changes things from time to time, a recent one being the whole matter of attachments.

However, thus is also a bit of a ‘gift horse’ job.   This website has served us very well since August 2004 and it has been totally free for all of that time.

I am using the ‘Reply’ function to your reply.   I have deleted all of the messages except yours, which brings the post back to manageable proportions, and I have changed the title to reflect what the subject that is now being discussed.

Attached is the true story of Rogers ' crosssing and the reality is that he handled himself like a true champ.

Thanks for that. I note that Roger Bells images on the web site were unopenable but OK to view on Gmail.

I use Gmail and do not have Michael's issues. You have to go to your 'sent' folder to see your own mail.
