Rust!

Hi,
Checking over my Syncro Caravelle recently I noticed rust appearing in front of the left rear wheel arch. Is this a common place for rust to appear?  My other Syncro has rust in the same area but the panel has off-roading damage so I thought that may have been the cause. The rust in the caravelle seems to be from the inside out.  Where else should I be looking for rust?

Cheers,

Michael,

Mine has had rust removed from the front lower seam just above the bumper crash bar plus the sill of the windscreen.

Apparently the side seams are also a common problem and anywhere that salty sandy crap can get trapped.

Michael, that spot is a 'hotspot' for rust, maybe the drain holes are blocked ? I  cleaned the whole section with high pressue water through one of the holes which are covered with a rubber/plastic cap. After a few days drying time I borrowed  a sprayline from the car paint shop and soaked the section with fish oil
and sofar so good.

Hey Michae
My van had a leak in the sliding door track half way up the van between rubber & the cover where the paint had rubbed through.
Tracked the water trail and it was running along engine deck then down into that small partitioned cavity that is in your rut photo, I suggest you check the van after hosing that side and see if you can track it back to its source. I drilled a hole to keep that small compartment drained as its a pain. Tuck a rag down there as mine held quite a bit of water. Could be a roof gutter leak. Hose it off and follow the water I recommend.
Good luck Pete SEQ
