side awning info

Hi Murray , I have a spare side awning you can have that I made 12 or
so years ago and replaced with a Fiamma. It attached to the van via an
annex track that was stuck on with silicon .Three straps passed through
the track and held the rolled up awning when unrolled there were two
alluminum poles and a spreader. The Fiamma enclosure mounts to an
adaptor plate that sits in the gutter and is held on with long metal
screws into the still accessible roof metal. It handy in the wet but
tends to not like corrugated roads.
Have a "ray's Outdoors" brochure open next to me which lists a Tourer 240 single pole 4 man tent for $295 which would seem to meet many of the price/erection speed/roominess needs.
Mind you I got into campervans after trying to put together colour coded tent poles in the dark whilst the rain was starting, and the kids and the wind were howling. We saw much of Australia in our T2 which accomodated all 4 kids (1 in basket on floor,1 in hammock over cab,2 in roof and Mum and Dad in double bed) until they got older and the 2 eldest moved out into a small dome tent that weathered many a storm. Wife always poking me at its height insisting that I go out and physically check my intuition that they would be pounding on the door if they weren't OK.They survived and reckon their mates grew up deprived because they hadn't had similar experiences. Roll forward many years and my youngest has the Syncro at a rock festival in the middle of a downpour choosing with ease the pick of the sites whilst others had their vehicles constrained by the mud. Its not just Mastercard that gives occasions that are priceless.
Have never used the awning that came with my van.
Cheers
Roger

Nice story, Roger. I hope our kids feel the same way about their camping experiences in years to come. He must be the coolest camper at the festival in your syncro.
