Sliding door bump rubber

Hi all

I seem to recall that someone in Australia was fabricating replacement bump-stops for the sliding door track to replace part number 251.843.876. Does anyone recall who it was? I think Uncle Ken was talking about it at the VW Nationals.

Cheers, Roger.

Hi Roger,

Nils Birkman makes them.
I'm sure be will have a few at this years Nationals.

He is away at the Great Ocean Rd at the moment.

Cheers

Hi Ken,

I bought my sliding door bump rubber from the US.

Any idea how to fit it?

Also I need to buy new AGM batteries. Are yours still ok - from Battery Value in Brisbane?

Cheers,

Theo

Hi Theo,
Access to location requires removal of the metal panel over the sliding door rail. Then slide door to a position that provides best access to both see and achieve wriggle room to fit the part. It should virtually "snap" into place if you position it correctly first. Take the opportunity to  check/clean away crap/grease the slider rail while there. Most trouble I had was refitting the metal panel with its black plastic bead ... need to use some grey matter using trial and ertor to get the black bead in correctly and fit the panel back at the same time.

Batteries are good still, no problems at all, you need to check if he can source the original size starting battery, mine is oversize DIN 66, which won't fit unless you have the seat raised with swivel base in place.
Cheers.

The correct size is DIN66L which is lower. They are easy to get. Try onlinebatteries.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for the info, I will put it in the too hard basket for now.

I will certainly check the battery size.

Cheers,

Theo

Hey Theo.

I managed to install the bumper from Nils without taking anything apart. I used 2 pairs of very long nosed pliers and somehow I managed. It took me about 20 minutes of actual work and at least 2 bears...but it is doable.

Cheers
