solid shaft to replace viscous coupling

Anyone out there installed a solid shaft in the front diff to replace the viscous
coupling.Over 95% of my off road driving is on soft sand and I have noticed that the slight
difference in torque /wheelspin is a disadvantage compared with other fwd vehicles. As I
already have a decoupler (VC was aggressive) I thought this might be a useful addition for
my senerio. Who sells them ? Any thoughts?
Nick Bellgrove.
Gday Nick

hahaha sounds way too easy so its probably not possible on a VW.
Otherwise, surely the VW gurus would have gone for this simpler, cheaper
option ... just add a decoupler and dispense with the vc.

..... but then necessity is the mother of invention Nick, you may have
something here ... hhmmmm

Hey Guys,

Yes solid shaft with a decoupler is the way to go for serious 4wd
(+diff locks!). There is websites in the states and germany who
sell this stuff, have come across it many times but couldn't tell
you specifically who would offer the best deal

From memory VW went with the decoupler so that you didn't have to
stop and do hubs and change into low range etc to go 4wding.

:) Sam.

Howdy,

I think you're referring to Tom Lengyl in Oregon. I don't have an email address handy, but you may be able to contact him via the syncro list on Yahoo. There's been some decoupler discussions on that list as well recently.
