Speed/Gear Graphs

Les,
 Ive also been fiddling with this xls spread sheet from Dereck Drew but Ive only guesstimated my tire RPM i will need to talk to perilli. to be accurate.

Phil,

The 6P and 6PA ratios are the same, according to that chart.  It will be interesting to see in the longer term which boxes were fitted to the Australian delivery Syncros.  Somewhere in my records I have the spec sheet for the first Syncros delivered to Australia.  It was noticeable that the sheet specified 4.86 final drive.  To my knowledge, Australia got the 5.43 only.

Phil,

You can also work out the KPH per 1000 RPM by using the rolling diameter of your tyres (which is very different to the static diameter) and using that figure to convert the stated kph/1000RPM of the 'standard' tyre.  There is a degree of approximation in this and the only reliable way to get a totally accurate figure is by using a fifth wheel.  A fifth wheel is used by motor vehicle manufacturers.  It is a trotting buggy sized wheel which is mounted on the rear of the vehicle and measures its own wheel revolutions (and thus speed) very accurately.

That is an ultimate measurement.  An acceptable intermediate is to use the factor above.  I have to use this for my own Syncro because I am running 15" BFG's, which work out to 104% of the 14".  When I get a bit of time, I will try to find someone in Melbourne who had 'standard' tyres and do a rolling circumference measurement to use as a base figure.

Derek's table is multi-function and is very good, but we can reduce this down to our own Australian delivered gearbox ratios and apply the rolling circumference to produce very usable results.  If you want to do your own rolling circumference measurements - quite simple and takes about twenty minutes, email me direct and I will send you the document.

As far as I know, Australia had 6P and 6PA boxes with 5.43 final drive. Some of the early models may be different. All gear ratios were the same just that the 6PA had a diff lock.

1=3.78
2=2.06
3=1.225
4=0.85

Speed/1000rpm @ tyre circ. 2.00m = 26kmh.

This is direct from factory documentation.

Anything else?

Phill,

The several charts that I have show that the 6P and 6PA have a third gear of 1.26 compared with 1.225 for other boxes.  I don't have a source for any of these charts.

As an absolute check, I will do a tooth count when my box is opened.

.

The only 3rd gear of any 4WD 094 box I have listed in the factory manual is 49:40=1.225 and the only gear in the ETKA parts is 091 311 285 B which is 49:40. on illustration 43-30.

Phill,

The 1.26 comes up on several charts for the Syncro 6P and 6PA box supplied with 5.43 final drive but, as I said, I will do a tooth count when the box is opened.

Phill,

As I said, I have collected a number of charts over the years but didn't attach an attribution to any of them.  I will dig them out and send them to direct; you might recognize some of them.  Probably not today because I am setting up a bunch of computers for a workshop that I am involved in.  I will find the charts as soon as I have this out of the way.
