Hi that was me, Peter from the Gold Coast camped at Moonee Beach , then Sawtell and now off to Bellinger River tonight after that Dorigo.

So I'm in the area for a few days.
Peter. You wouldn't believe it. When we passed you we were visiting friends at moonee beach. Then drove home via Sawtell this morning.. Was in my sons falcon ute so you wouldn't have noticed. sorry missed you . Same son that took photo of your van on rover trail with front foot in air. take care. Bill
We had a relaxing trip mainly camping and drinking with friends we had one brief stop on the beach at Myleston.

I have posted a video on youtube not too exciting but great fun.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for sharing the fun video on Mylestrom Beach!
I'm impressed with your exit, it appears you did it without first deflating tyres.

About three years ago before Valla, my Trakka got stuck on that same beach adjacent to that entry/exit.
I'd expect your van is lighter than my Trakka, hence your easier exit compared with my heavy Trakka having to be pulled out using a 4WD ute and my snatch strap ... now with my tyres deflated!

Yet another lesson. Keep the weight down and prudently in my case ... deflate the tyres!

Cheers.
Ken

I drove on to the beach with my tyres at 42psi and my mate in the LandCruiser tyres were at 48psi. Once we had stopped neirther of us could move forward or backwards. I dropped my tyres to 18psi and the video is the result no problems. Same with my mate but he only had to go to about 30psi.

The attached video is of us on Faser Island a few years ago where I help him out of the soft sand.

VW Syncro T3 helps LandCruiser 200 series

What I found interesting on the video (the first one) was watching the sand off the rear tires from the back. Looks like the mud flaps direct a lot of sand in towards the engine, as you climb a bit in the soft stuff there is a lot of sand that appears to poor over the muffler and down between the muffler and rear panel.

Scary to think of the path the sand took to get from the rear tire to exit over the muffler. It's a bit of a concern just how much dirt covers the engine after even a short run in dusty conditions.

I was caught out last year in soft sand, a track I had passed through fine the day before, after a lot of use I could not get out, that is with 215R15's at 16psi. Was a very tight track so could not get a run up, I got no further diff lock off or on, after a few failed attempts I took a different track (I didn't get bogged). An amarock ahead of me got out fine with less ground clearance, and probably a little more weight. I would say that was more to do with the torque curve of the amarocks engine, I needed a run up to maintain revs, and most likely spun the wheels more. I also wonder if a solid shaft instead of the viscous would have helped?
