stainless steel cooling pipes

Hi Richard

Still awaiting a proper quote. I did underestimate the shipping costs unfortunately. Thought it would fit into DHL std. size postal.
Thomas and and Alex are checking atm if there is another option for a good price by shipping three sets at one (to keep value below AUD $ 1000).

Hope I get the quote this week.

Cheers Arne

Sounds like a great price Arne, even a repeat batch locally (setup costs etc for paid for in first batch) would be ~$400ea, plus I don't have the bus off the road testing a sample :)

The batch size would need to be 20-30 to match those prices.

G'day!

Just checked current prices from my main parts supplier in Germany:
SS cooling pipes are 229€ - 19% tax + 60€ shipping to AUS (individual to each person) ends up currently at AUD 360-375 delivered (complete set incl. hoses to connect pipes). In a Group buy, prices should even come down a little bit.

Just for you thoughts of making them locally, if they match the price above (delivered) = perfect.
If they are much more expensive, may should consider the option from overseas. Exchange rate is very good atm to bring stuff in from Europe.

If no one is in a rush, I will do one set first and confirm the fit fine to my bus before doing the rest.

Thanks for the update Arne. Let us know how you go.

Hi Arne, any updates?

Thanks, Richard

Got still no shipping quote :(
Didn't expect that it gonna be that difficult to send long pieces.
Alex (my dealer in Germany) is looking for various options atm. DHL doesn't take them.

Sorry for the delay.

Hi Richard,

my apologizes for the delay, didn't expect it gonna be so difficult to send "oversize" items. Had the wrong shipping dimension in my mind, therefore I though initial it would be way cheaper to bring them in from overseas. Unfortunately I was wrong.
I'm still chasing up on this subject, but don't know the outcome yet.

Hi Richard,

I bought my SS coolant pipes way back in 2010 from – The BUS Depot – USA all up for AU$462 including shipping.

May be worth a try.

Cheers,

Theo

OK, I know this one seems to have fallen by the way side, but have gone so far as to get a full set of pipes, have them 3D scanned and get more accurate pricing.

Looks like for the smaller pieces there's no real saving in manufacturing locally, they are not that expensive to buy, and freight is not that costly. For reference they are listed at the bottom..

That leaves the two long plastic lines in 304stainless, I can get these made, I can also get factory style spring clamps and the joining hose (SS pipes are split in two for installation). The saving is in freight costs.

Exact price will depend on quantity as there are some fixed setup costs plus the cost to get the scanning done etc.

So, ex Brisbane assuming a batch of 10, price for a kit is ~$460

So if anyone is still interested, let me know numbers and I can get final costing's. As their locally built, lead times are not that long, but lets say 4-5wks from the time I give them the go ahead.

I can potentially through work also get a good freight price for one batch to Syd and Melb to try and keep that cost down.

Just for reference, again estimates, all in 304SS

025.121.151 $120

025.121.171 $75

251.121.442A $275

025.121.081G $250

025.121.065A $105

025.121.065 $90

This is all the bits for a Syncro excluding hoses. If people are interested in these, could look at a group buy from a vendor? If there's interest, I can look into this also.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I will take a set,

Neil.

Thought I would run this as a separate thread. Anyone interested in SS cooling pipes to replace the original plastic ones (long ones from front to back)?

Looks like it could be a little cheaper to manufacture local, manufactured to match the originals and split in half for easier fitting. Would be in 304 stainless with bossing on ends for hose clamps.

If others were interested could get a batch made instead of just one set.

I'm in Bris so would need to factor in freight to your location.

In the KC Forum are a few more Syncro owners which are not in here. So might worthwhile to try to bump up numbers.

Another update. Have looked into the rest of the pipes, below is a comparison of prices from Van café and building here. As these are relatively small, even with freight it would be similar priced or cheaper buying than making.

Have looked into a group buy option. Again I don't think there is any real advantage. I can get a discount, and would save a little on freight cost. The down side is the total value, this will mean duty and customs fees for even just two kits. That would offset any saving to be had.

Doing a quick search (vancafe, gowesty, busdepot, gunzl's), prices do vary. I think you'd save more individually picking the best price items from each vendor and avoiding the import duties.

That still leaves the long pipes. The savings are there due to the size and freight cost.

If everyone is happy, I will concentrate on the long pipes and leave the others out. I'll put a post up on the kombi club to gauge interest then get a batch underway.

Hi all,

No interest from Kombi Club yet, but Phil on there did post you can get freight included?? from JK, $550.

So there's still a saving making them here. For Syd/Melb shipping I should be able to send with work, rough cost ~$40 (will have to check regarding Adelaide.

Looks like we have 7 so far. If I need to keep a batch of 10 for the cost, I might put a couple of sets in the shed in case some one needs them down the track, just a lot of $$ sitting collecting dust!

Thanks Aaron, that will make freight easier if two sets are going to Adelaide.

Thanks Arne, that's fine. Just to let you all know, Arne also found the pipes at Brickwerks.

I'll still go ahead with this batch though.
