Stalling Engine

Might have to recalibrate the gauge& then reset mixtures with a laptop, but swapping the afm is a good idea

Eddie,
I did a few days ago. It makes no difference if I run it with Innovate MTX-L on LPG or petrol or the factory O2 sensor connected/disconnected.
May be there is something wrong with the Injectors or Pressure regulator?

Bob and All,

Not that I know of.
Greg was kind enough to let me try his AFM  but no difference - still running very rich.
I mean rich - about 22lit. per 100k!!!  In my book, it is not the AFM  it may not be 100% but no.
Since then I tried 2 secondhand temp2 sensor (one from Greg) -no difference. I will order some new ones.
I also checked the Injectors - they seem to work, I can hear them open & closing, resistance is ok.
Tomorrow, I will have another look at the Throttle switch, and after that I go window shopping, it starts with T.
Cheers,
Theo

Bob,
Do you mean the ECU ?  I had a look at the circuit board with a magnifying glass but could not see any obvious damage.
It could be a faulty ECU.

Theo,

Two possibilities.

1. Have you checked free exhaust flow through the CAT and muffler?  High back pressure can cause excessive consumption.

2. Recently, I was reading some notes from Ben Tan regarding ECU’s and he had previously found the following:

“In my previous life working for AT&T, we discovered the more 'advanced' the equipment, the more they suffered from electronic gremlins. Upon closer examination of the circuit boards under a microscope, there obvious micro-cracks which would intermittently open to create a faulty condition then subsequently close to hide it again. Said gremlins are ever present especially in automotive components.
A Vanagon List member went to the trouble of inspecting "defective" ECU's and ICU's from T3's. Lo and behold, micro-cracks were present in the solder. He re-melted the solder and thereby "rebuilt" the ECU's”.

2.  I will have an other look.

What about a Terrafugia it's a flying car you could hopp to  Coffs in no time.
There's of course another one with T but even looking at it could be interpreted as an offense .....

Theo, You can grab mine on Saturday morning. We could even swap them and see if your fault changes to my bus. I will be kid wrangling between 11&1pm so those times are out. I have "fiddled" with mine to get the best air fuel ratio I can to suit the 2.4 capacity but there is no reason it won't work on yours. Just thought I should let you know it is not a standard unit. Eddie,

I have no issue with idles. After the van's been to the VW work shop the engine stalling has been fixed, see previous email.
However the engine still runs very rich - you can smell it. Also the Innovate Motor sports gauge shows 9-11 Lambda in normal driving.
The mechanic reckons the AFM is faulty. I have tried to repair the AFM shifting the circuit board so the wiper has a new track.
All this as per Ken's suggestion, but it didn't make any difference. I really would like a good working AFM to try on my van to find
out if the AFM is actually faulty, any takers?

Cheers, Theo

Try playing with the spring tension of the flap in the afm. Over time it loosens up a bit. Does it idle rough on gas too?. I know with my system the afm has nothing to do with running on gas, and idles very smooth whilst on gas. Eddie.

Theo !  Starting with T ? What could that be???  T2 maybe ? No whizzz fizz electronics!

What about a Terrafugia it's a flying car you could hopp to  Coffs in no time.

There's of course another one with T but even looking at it could be interpreted as an offense .....

Please give us a hint !!!

Hartmut

Theo;

Yes it sends all the signals to the motor components i.e. air flow meter, timing, fuel mix, idle revs ,injector operating time are you in Sydney if so you may find a member who has a spare or is prepared to swap to see what happens, I do have one as my docca has a performance chip fitted to it, but I will need to find it if you want to go down this path.

Bob,
Do you mean the ECU ?  I had a look at the circuit board with a magnifying glass but could not see any obvious damage.
It could be a faulty ECU.
