subaru ej22 conversion

A subject beaten to death.

Im after info on who has converted their syncro in Australia.

I was going to go the Volvo B230 route, but have just got a EJ22 with 80k on the odo.

What adaptor kit do you recommend?

Adaptor plate? or Bell housing?

I can get a Kennedy kit here for $770aud.

I have read that you have to do a water line, thermostat mod to stop overheating issues with the heater?

some say you do, some say you don't. then I read you must put a hall effect on the CV, some say the pre 94 motors don't need it. its just another thing hanging off the motor to get ripped off on a stray stick.

Why am I converting mine? mainly power and the cost to replace a VW 2.1 is not cheap. mine is claimed to have a ottenger 2.5  i'll know when I rip it out and pull a head off. even if it does have a 2.5, i'll still convert mine and sell the 2.5.

Any direction to conversion and what issues you had, would be great.

Steve

I have done 4 vans, 2 x 2wd and 2 x Syncro. I have used the SmallCar bellhousing, Unicap adapter and Kennedy adapter. I have used the Sherman adapters also but not in a T3 conversion. Over all I would go for the Kennedy adapter as the machining is far superior to to the others, install straight out of the box and not have to double check the work. Also easier than the bellhousing. Thermostat mod is more for COLD weather climates, as long as there is a bleed back to the thermostat from the coolant manifold it is not really necessary. You can get the Hall sensor(VSS) up out of the road (check 2WD(2), Syncro (1&2)) or use the sensor in the speedo ( 2WD(1)).

Your a star. Thank you.
Was thinking the Kennedy adaptor. It's avail in Aust. Less hassles than shipping from OS if I have an issue.

Steve
I got mine direct from Kennedy, the price you quoted is good from what I remember.  You have probably noticed that each install is different. Hope you got some good tips.

Regards Brent
Thanks.
Yes every install and conversion is different.
Dependant on how I do it.
Little things like reverse manifolds ect. They all look good but add up on cost

Steve
Thanks.
Has anyone here used the Volks Conversions kit from QLD?
It's designed for the 228mm clutch.
$770 AUD
