Sydney meet

its got me thinking....
Lets do one!
Owners of syncro in Sydney and out of... who wants to do a day together.
We could even do an overnighter.
Maybe Queens long weekend or even the Nationals week.
Impressions of interest please. If there is some, I will organize.
BenC
Keep the 2 remaining Mid North Coasters in the looop. The DOKA wants to go places !! Showing off all the new CVs, new tyres (still looking what we can get in 16s) , the new starter bush, and the bed in the cab.

I am in for a Meet some where Sydney or North if possible.

Time available on weekends in Summer is non-existent due to Nippers Carnivals and Iron Person events which my eldest daughter enters plus her regional little athletics and various swimming club carnivals make Summer a total write off.

We are also away @ Easter and the weekend before we are up @ Fingal Bay in the Port Stevens area.

I also need to organise and keep an eye on my early bay kombi's restoration which is to happen in a couple of weeks and will thankfully be funded by Shannon's insurance after an in-attentive lady in a commodore (probably texting) ran up the ass of my old bus just before Christmas.

Life is never slow and cruisy in my household.

June Long Weekend sounds great and I will leave the family @ home.

Cheers,

Skot

Ok Blue Mountains Adventure People:

My book titled 4wd adventures close to Sydney has a perfect trek called "Trek to Newnes".

This does a road nearby the glow-worm tunnel but I am sure if we do it over a couple of days we can fit the glow worm tunnel in.

The trek starts @ the Zig-zag railway just off the "Bells-line of Road" in the Blue Mountains.

We then drive along Newnes Forest Road and take a little side track to "the Lost City" near the Bungleboori Picnic/ Camping Area. We could then drive up to the Glow Worm Tunnel along the aptly named Glow-worm Tunnel Road - then back track to Galah Mountain Trail to see "Galah" - whatever that is?

Then we can back track down to either the "Deep-Pass Trail" or back to the camping area previously noted.

The next day we could do the "Blackfellows Hand Trail" to "Blackfellows Hand Rock" and then down Wolgan Road to either Lidsdale where we can get fuel or go north to Newnes Historic Town along the Wolgan Gap Road.

Its an easy trek with a few side adventure tracks we can go on if keen and depending on the weather. There is toilet facilities @ Bungleboori Camping Area but there are other camping spots recommended in the book without facilities.

Let me know if this suits everyone interested?

Cheers,

Skot

You can count me in too, roster permitting.

The glow-worm tunnel is magic, as long as you don't make a sound to frighten the glow-worms. There is an unexpected surprise at the end.

We used to camp at the Newnes historic site. Beaut camping on the Wolgan river, miles of interesting tracks to explore.

It used to be the biggest industrial site in the southern hemisphere, supplying high-grade kerosene to light the lamps of Britain and Europe. Now it's just a ghost town.

Imagine Port Kembla in a beautiful Blue Mountains valley, hemmed in by spectacular sandstone escarpments.

Now totally reclaimed by the bush.

It's amazing to turn a corner in a bush track to find a ruined factory with mature gum trees growing through the roof.

Gives you hope for the planet's ability to heal itself. Hard to imagine that they once stripped the valley of trees to feed the retorts, and dumped petrol as a waste product into the river. [There was no use for it then].

Some of the local rock formations are like Chinese pagodas - hence, the "Lost City".

With recent advances in the technology of shale mining, it is probable that this area will be mined again one day to provide us with fuel. It is sitting on one of the richest shale-oil deposits in the world.

Better get out and see it while you can.

An overnight trip would give us a chance to have a yarn around the campfire.

And its only a few hours out of Sydney!

I better go down the shed, pump the water out of the pit, and refit the propeller shaft with the new unis.

                                           Cheers, Roger [Beetle Bayley].

Ok,sounds like enough interest.
What about Queens birthday weekend? The public holiday falls on Monday 10th June.

Ben,

I think that was the date planned.

I am not bringing the family so bush toilets and no hot showers are good enough for me.

Hi, Count me in too!
Love that area, since moving to Bathurst have tried to explore as much of it as possible.  My caravelle on highway tires not the best off road exploring on my own.  Last time past Bungleboori camp ground was a bit of a dump, lots of motor riders use it as a day camp and just dump there rubbish there.  Not sure about the toilet either can’t remember seeing oany.
The lost city is a really beautiful but the 4wd guys have stuffed the last km of track digging it up so had to walk in.  But defiantly worth the walk, that was last year and the track may be better now.
Deep pass canyon is a nice diversion but there again a bit of a walk but some lovely swimming holes also a pit toilet at the camp ground.
Glow worm tunnel has a toilet in the car park , not sure about camping in the area.
There are just so many places to explore around the Blue Mt, 6 foot track and Kananga wall are also not too bad.
Cheers,
Michael R

Michael,

Excellent - the trek is suitable for soft-roaders or syncros on road tyres with no diff-locks so unless it rains cats and dogs we should be right.

We can make the decision where to camp depending on what we find at the various camp sites and it will be a democracy for the location.

Should be fantastic if the weather behaves!

Cheers,

Skot

Hi Scott,
Was driving past Lithgow so droped in to the info center and picke up this attached flyer on the Garden of Stone.  The Bungleboori camp site has no toilet any more, It has been removed.  The Blackfellows Hand Trail could be a bit chopped up at the moment with all the rain we have had latley, but will go have a look closer to the date.

Cheers,

The lost city is a really beautiful but the 4wd guys have stuffed the last km of track digging it up so had to walk in. But defiantly worth the walk, that was last year and the track may be better now.
Deep pass canyon is a nice diversion but there again a bit of a walk but some lovely swimming holes also a pit toilet at the camp ground.
Glow worm tunnel has a toilet in the car park , not sure about camping in the area.
There are just so many places to explore around the Blue Mt, 6 foot track and Kananga wall are also not too bad.
Cheers,
Michael R

Ok Blue Mountains Adventure People: My book titled 4wd adventures close to Sydney has a perfect trek called "Trek to Newnes".
