I believe the previous owner of this highly modified syncro has to be the long departed member here … Peter Kolevas from the Gold Coast. Peter still owned it in late 2019 when he and I chatted via mobile re gearbox topic.
I remember him posting on the forum about adding cruise control, front peloquin install, locking gearbox and front diff changes, solid shaft, zetec motor. Also that he got caught out importing the 4.86 ratio locking transaxle and locking front diff from USA, thinking he was getting the 5.43 ratio set.
Zetec 2.0 motor install is the other known T3 option in USA, from where Peter sourced one. It’s possible this zetecsync is a unique one off in Australia, even more so in a RHD van.
Addition
Connect the dots. Here’s an early brief description of Peters syncro, before zetec etc install:
1989 Poptop, 16" wheels, rear diff lock, decoupler, Swivel seat, Electric windows, Central locking, AC not working. Soon to install straight shaft and LSD in front diff.
Yep probably so as this seems to be a North American conversion I’ve not heard of it here. My main concern is the rust in the front end. A lot of money to pay to cut out the front and replace.
I suspect it was Peter’s better half who advised him she needed more space and creature comforts for touring … so he dutifully sold the syncro, replaced by … who knows … a winnebago?
A forum search under “peter_kolevas” (note underscore) will gleen some interesting history on this syncro.
He’s still on the member list here.
If he is still the owner, he would have notified/offered it for sale here.
Given Peter arranged all these mods and more, for better background, he’s the best person to chat to, more so than current owner’s 2nd hand knowledge of Peter’s input.
I willl be looking over your shoulder with interest!
