Syncro buy any model considered

I believe the previous owner of this highly modified syncro has to be the long departed member here … Peter Kolevas from the Gold Coast. Peter still owned it in late 2019 when he and I chatted via mobile re gearbox topic.

I remember him posting on the forum about adding cruise control, front peloquin install, locking gearbox and front diff changes, solid shaft, zetec motor. Also that he got caught out importing the 4.86 ratio locking transaxle and locking front diff from USA, thinking he was getting the 5.43 ratio set.

Zetec 2.0 motor install is the other known T3 option in USA, from where Peter sourced one. It’s possible this zetecsync is a unique one off in Australia, even more so in a RHD van.

Addition
Connect the dots. Here’s an early brief description of Peters syncro, before zetec etc install:

1989 Poptop, 16" wheels, rear diff lock, decoupler, Swivel seat, Electric windows, Central locking, AC not working. Soon to install straight shaft and LSD in front diff.

Yep probably so as this seems to be a North American conversion I’ve not heard of it here. My main concern is the rust in the front end. A lot of money to pay to cut out the front and replace.

It does sound like Peters.

The Owner told my mate that he has been everywhere in it including Fraser Island Big Red doing the Simpson desert.

Maybe it is Peter selling it?

The wheels on the syncro being sold are stock 14" but the rest seems to correspond.

I suspect it was Peter’s better half who advised him she needed more space and creature comforts for touring … so he dutifully sold the syncro, replaced by … who knows … a winnebago?

A forum search under “peter_kolevas” (note underscore) will gleen some interesting history on this syncro.

He’s still on the member list here.

If he is still the owner, he would have notified/offered it for sale here.

Given Peter arranged all these mods and more, for better background, he’s the best person to chat to, more so than current owner’s 2nd hand knowledge of Peter’s input.

The fella selling name is Peter? Selling a 2WD Ute as well.

Seems the syncro has sold as it has been taken down from Carsales…

Did you buy it Andy?

Yes I saw that today, no I didn’t buy it my search continues. It wasn’t the one for me but I’m sure I’ll know when I find it.

I will keep looking…

It’s been some time since I spoke to Peter (pre-Covid…) At the time he still has the Syncro and had upgraded to a T6 (4motion) I believe.

Hey Andy. Check out my recent post in the classifieds. Cheers. Greg

Hi Andy,
I’m in the hunt too for pop up version.
Please let me know if you have seen any worth a look that you have passed on.

Cheers,
Paul

Have a look on Carsales, gumtree and Facebook market place I’m looking to convert one to electric, playing the long game not sure it will pay off.

I’m also thinking of swapping the Subi lump for an electric motor at some point. Be interested to see how you go Andy.

The way the government are driving up fuel prices, I think we will all need to if we want to keep driving these old tanks.

I willl be looking over your shoulder with interest!
If you google: T3 electric conversion youtube
you’ll find a stack of videos.

There are a couple of nice syncros on the market now:

A dark blue one with trakka pop-top in WA which is fully loaded.

A white one with pop-top and rear locker on the east coast.

They are both asking the usual money…

Three on Carsales. One with a very interesting hibiscus wrap. Prices keep increasing.

Thanks Peter - Yes some syncro prices are getting out of my league.

But I’ll have a gander.

The hibiscus wrap syncro is also advertised for $7,500 on a caravan & camping site but I think it must be a typo as it’s the same car.
Cheers

Thanks Scott,
yes I saw those - in fact I’m sure the WA one was sold at one point. A nice rig but I’d need to save up more pennies!.

I agree Paul,

I thought it sold, but these are the same photos as before.

A member on here was selling it.
