There's a 1990 Syncro Camper with difflock and decoupler advertised in the Trading Post located at Rochedale QLD. for $26,000. If it sells at that price I hope my pension fund starts investing in Syncros.
Sorry we won't be seeing you Francesca at the DOTVW. Don't worry Syncros are a long term addiction - I expect you will be leading our first trans-Antarctic crossing of the South Pole by Syncros in due course (via Shackelton Base and Bunnings).
Cheers
Roger

Gday Roger
Here's the link if anyone wants to take a bopeep .. goto: http://tinyurl.com/55pzeg
Yes well its an ex Telecom, clearly it would be attractive to offroaders, fisherpersons etc, the biggest attraction would be all the money spent recently on mechanicals, cooling system, tyres etc., rough guesses would be ...
Complete cooling system replaced, including radiator ................................................................ $ 2000
Added and rebuilt a difflocking transaxle in June 2006 ............................................................... $ 8000
Decoupler installed in June 2006 ................................................................................................ $ 5000
Engine reconditioned in May 2008 ............................................................................................. $ 5000
6 x 15" Mag Wheels with 215/75x15 Cooper ATR tyres (in excellent condition) .......................... $ 2000
So that's $22000 spent recently.
Leaving $4000 for all the rest, including poptop, rear tyre and jerrycan racks etc., etc.
Heh you get those wonderful tailgate Telecom handles too .... how good are they!
To sell it so soon after spending so much ....... not a good idea. Good for buyers though eh.
Cheers.

Hi Roger,
What’s the latest on this. I think that Neil probably doesn’t get on the Syncro list, and he may be interested, so if anything is finalized we should forward it to him (n.smith@sunnyfield.com.au )

Hi Les,
Roger was looking in to the caravan park there, but I haven’t heard back yet. I shouldn’t imagine it would be difficult to get in at this time of year though. It is about 10km past the DotVW venue just off the Sth Gippsland Highway (Melways 144A2). I might also try to get there, but there is a competing event with the buggy’s on a run down the GOR to Wye River . Roger was also waiting to see how much interest there was. Mark, are you still keen? And I think some-one else from Melbourne indicated interest.
Roger, you might also ask about car/van washing facilities there, but I expect water restrictions would kill that.

Neil,
Are you bringing the T2? If so, you can slot into our display. I have already prepared an "Honorary Syncro" vehicle sign fore you in case you are bringing it.
Roger/Brian,
Who has got details of Tooradin? Not that it is hard to find - Tooradin is very small.
Hi everyone particularly Mark(and Debbie and Max),
Thought I would leave it until tonight to see the responses and get the 7 day weather forecast.
First the forecast for Sat is 11-20degrees,cloudy with the chance of a shower. Sunday unfortunately is similar.
I'm still inclined to stay at Tooradin Saturday night with you Mark and anyone else who can make it. I'll ring them tomorrow and won't make a definate booking but see if they could accomodate say up to 5 vans although it looks more like just 2.
Mark could you let me know when you might arrive in Melbourne/Carlton bearing in mind that Max will have organized his own plans on how many stops he may need. We could fix you up with a cuppa and whatever is needed and then take off down to Tooradin which would probably take another say hour and a half. You may even prefer to shower etc. at our place as I don't have any information on the Tooradin facilities.
The caravan park doesn't have a rating in the RACV guide or its own website. However the following site probably has the most information on the town/caravan park (albeit 2004)
Alternatively you could just stay the night with us in Carlton and we all leave early on Sunday morning.
I'll send you more detailed directions on our place when I get your reaction. We are not far from the end of Sydney Road. The good news is that petrol was 119.9c litre at the discount garages here today although they are due for their weekly cycle of increase/decrease starting tomorrow.
Its not too late for others to respond.
Cheers
Roger
PS My DotVW info kit arrived today. I have been given entry sticker No 1!

Dear Mark,
I think our 2 emails crossed with both unaware of the other at the time of composition. I will stay home Saturday afternoon onwards and expect to see you sometime in the afternoon in time to get to Tooradin. I rang them and it would be $24 for the site plus $3.30 for Max (I said he was 18months old?) They would like a booking as they say they are down to their last half dozen sites.I promised to ring by Friday am latest to confirm or otherwise. There are no barbcues in the park but they are on the foreshore over the road which also has a childs play area. Could you talk to Debbie and confirm what will suit you best -Tooradin, or Carlton and an early start Sunday.
Cheers Roger

Yes Roger, that would be good. I don’t really have easy access to an electronic version for printing. I’m thinking now it would be good to come to Tooradin as well, despite the extra load on board. We’re not likely to get a relaxed chat on the day.

Roger,
Looks like Mark (a family) Neil (& Karen), Roger, Les & myself for Tooradin Caravan Park . I’m happy to share a site with some-one else travelling solo (Les/Roger?), so I think we should book 4 sites ASAP, as other DotVW travellers might have the same idea. Other local syncro attendees who want to join us could book independently (5998 3349).
Neil expects to arrive some time Saturday afternoon. Do we want to convoy to Tooradin together? Maybe I’ll ask Neil to come here, and I can ring you when he arrives, and you and Mark can meet us here (easier parking), and Les as well if he wants to make the detour.
PS. There are pub and other ‘eat out’ options at Tooradin if it rains.

Roger,
The pendulum swings. It looks like Tooradin will get up, so put my name down. Neil has already said that he would join the Tooradin night. As Brian says, it will probably be the only opportunity for him, and also for myself, to get some uninterrupted time with our own group members.
Re the map, do you have access to a laminator? If so, laminate the A4 bits and we will join them to suit. I have about 40 A3 size pics, all laminated. The laminating makes the pics a lot more handleable, adds to the presentation effect and is impervious to rain - which we might get on current forecasts.

Right I'll book 4 sites for those below. If I other person wants to come they can join the double site that will otherwise have only 1 person on it - any more as you say they can make the booking direct. I'll book the 4 sites first thing tomorrow. I think they said that they have a local church function on Saturday where some will stay over night.I hope their riotous behaviour doesn't keep a restrained group like ourselves awake.
Haven't got a laminator but will be laser printing the copies so colours shouldn't run even if rained on. Will also still look to see if I have any suitable plastic cover that maintains legibility.
Its looking good
I'll ring Brian as soon as I hear/see Mark on Saturday.
Cheers

Thanks for all the effort organising and making the booking for us - we'll definitely see you Saturday for Tooradin.
We're travelling down tonight for the 1st stage, and then the rest Fri. morning, so we'll be in Melbourne on Friday. I actually have a meeting in Cartlon with a large organisation full of Kombi Lovers on Friday afternoon, hence the earlier start. Perhaps we can overnight with you in Carlton Friday night, as we'll be camping out Thu night and may need a shower by then :-)
Kind Regards
Mark.

I think they said that they have a local church function on Saturday where some will stay over night.I hope their riotous behaviour doesn't keep a restrained group like ourselves awake.Haven't got a laminator but will be laser printing the copies so colours shouldn't run even if rained on. Will also still look to see if I have any suitable plastic cover that maintains legibility. Its looking goodI'll ring Brian as soon as I hear/see Mark on Saturday.CheersRogerFrom: Brian Reed <breed@bigpond.net.au>Received: Wednesday, 12 November, 2008, 8:43 AM

Roger,
Looks like Mark (a family) Neil (& Karen), Roger, Les & myself for Tooradin Caravan Park . I'm happy to share a site with some-one else travelling solo (Les/Roger?) , so I think we should book 4 sites ASAP, as other DotVW travellers might have the same idea. Other local syncro attendees who want to join us could book independently (5998 3349).
Neil expects to arrive some time Saturday afternoon. Do we want to convoy to Tooradin together? Maybe I'll ask Neil to come here, and I can ring you when he arrives, and you and Mark can meet us here (easier parking), and Les as well if he wants to make the detour.
PS. There are pub and other 'eat out' options at Tooradin if it rains.

Yes Roger, that would be good. I don't really have easy access to an electronic version for printing. I'm thinking now it would be good to come to Tooradin as well, despite the extra load on board. We're not likely to get a relaxed chat on the day.

Dear Mark,
I think our 2 emails crossed with both unaware of the other at the time of composition.
CheersRoger

Yes, still keen and Tooradin, if small and quiet yet close sounds ideal.

Hi Les,
Roger was looking in to the caravan park there, but I haven't heard back yet. I shouldn't imagine it would be difficult to get in at this time of year though. It is about 10km past the DotVW venue just off the Sth Gippsland Highway (Melways 144A2). I might also try to get there, but there is a competing event with the buggy's on a run down the GOR to Wye River . Roger was also waiting to see how much interest there was. Mark, are you still keen? And I think some-one else from Melbourne indicated interest.
Roger, you might also ask about car/van washing facilities there, but I expect water restrictions would kill that.

Are you bringing the T2? If so, you can slot into our display. I have already prepared an "Honorary Syncro" vehicle sign fore you in case you are bringing it.
Roger/Brian,
Who has got details of Tooradin? Not that it is hard to find - Tooradin is very small.

No worries for my place Friday Mark. I'll be home from 4pm and will arrange dinner for us.I could probably get home a little earlier if necessary. Being grandparents we have a cot for Max if needed. Can you do your usual magic to find my house on google or do you need directions? Perhaps you would like to explore Melbourne after dinner if I can look after Max for you. We can do whatever suits.
Any problems ring me on 0422 024 197.
For the other campers I confirm that I have booked what the Tooradin Park told me are their last 4 sites for Saturday night. The bookings are against my credit card so please don't let me down. Let's touch base together Sat, prior to going down, to see whether it suits to travel together.
Cheers
Roger

I heard from Volker this morning. He has a video of action shots compiled from his footage of the KttK trip, and is very happy with the results. It is relatively short, as he has done it with YouTube in mind, but he says it has some spectacular action sequences which should stand up well to any other syncro material on the web. He has some family and other commitments in Melb. on Saturday, but will see us at Cranbourne on Sunday.
PS. Roger, I’m sure you gave me a disc of photos from the trip, but I can’t seem to put my hands on it at the moment. Can you bring a copy with you.
