Wow! That's more than double what it would cost here.

Ben,

First look at the value of our dollar, then factor in that we are on the other side of the world.  This applies to everything we import!!

Hi Les,

That works out to be about US$4900 at today's prices. Reconn boxes can be had here for $2500. Keep in mind we
are also importing geraboxes from Germany. California is about 6000 miles away from Germany or about 3600 closer
than OZ. Seems like a lot more money for the additional distance. I'm sure it has more to do with supply & demand
more than anything else.

Ben,

It also has to do with purchasing power, as in importing large quantities as in the US compared with miniscule as in Australia.  These gearboxes were found by a local (non-official but long-standing) Volkswagen workshop, so he would have been quoted the over the counter price in Germany and have arrange his own shipping.

Heh BenT,

Never miss an opportunity when its staring you in the face.

Here's your opportunity to make a killing ... supplying Her Majesty's
convicts with cheaper quality components.

Just make sure you get the gear ratios right though ok. Ta.

Cheers.

Ken

Ken,

I am not reliable enough to engage in that sort of business. Have my hands full with my real job. Real Estate, that is.
It's that thing that is driving the world economy down the toilet -- devalued US real estate especially those in my slice
of apple pie -- California.

Cheers,

Ken,
