Syncro Insurance

Francesca,

Thanks for the update.

If you could tell us what premium you are paying for what vehicle value, it will allow us all to compare our insurance with what you found.  There might be some surprises for many of us.  I have already learned that I am paying a lot more for RACV insurance for less cover than what you have found.

Thanks for your suggestions re insurance and advice on covers. In the end we've gone with
CIL who specialise in campervans, caravans and motorhomes. Shannons won't insure late-
model campervans (post 1980s) and CIL was their suggestion. The premium was highly
competitive and they insure for an agreed value. They also offer an attractive range of extras
tailored for extended trips, including towing, guarantees on repairs, alternative
accommodation, contents insurance etc etc.

Just thought I'd pass this on in case it may be of use to other Syncro camper owners.

Cheers,

Francesca.

I'd better get the hang of posting responses on the appropriate thread.

Hi Les - the premium may also be adjusted for street / postcode and garaged or not garaged etc

Regards
Mark.

Mark,

True, but I am looking at nearly double the premium for less cover in what RACV deems to be a safe postcode.  Thanks to Francesca, I will be doing some research and it is unlikely that I will renew the RACV policy given what she has found.

No worries at all.

The premium came to around $400 p.a for an agreed value of $25K (which, admittedly, is slightly inflated). The standard contents cover is $1000 for items stolen from the vehicle but we increased that to $3000 to allow for transportation of cameras, a laptop etc. If anyone is interested, I could forward them the Product Disclosure Statement which sets out in detail what is and what is not covered.

Hi Les - that's worth pursuing for sure. I was advised by an actuary recently that premiums become increasingly difficult to compare due to the increasingly sophisticated nature of their data stores.

Let us know how you fare..

Hi Francesca,

is that for a vehicle that is known to be only driving "some of the time" rather than like for most premiums it is considered a daily driver?

Thanks
Mark.

No, that wasn't taken into account. This insurance scheme is tailored specifically to motorhomes, caravans and campers so the usual considerations re cars don't appear to apply. Oh, and nor were postcode and garaging taken into account.

Gday Francesca,

The other thing that hasn't yet been mentioned that normally has a huge
bearing on the size of the premium is the applicants past n0-claims
record, for example, up to say a 60% reduction.

Do you feel this played some part in the final outcome of this
reasonable insurance premium in your case?

Cheers.

Ken

Hi All, Francesca’s premium is basically the same as ours though the CMCA motorhome association (around $400) – although she has a higher coverage where we’re probably underinsured slightly for our vehicle as the CMCA would only insure to the purchase value. However, when I shopped around for insurance I found that I got extra cover for up to $300.00 less than the big insurers through the CMCA. I do think for those of us with campers it is worth checking out these associations.

Kind Regards

Murray

Hi,

CMCA sounds like a very similar product in terms of extras, with the only notable difference being insuring to the agreed value rather than the purchase price. BTW we have a 65% reduction by way of a no-claim bonus.

Francesca,

Thanks for the update.

If you could tell us what premium you are paying for what vehicle value, it will allow us all to compare our insurance with what you found.  There might be some surprises for many of us.  I have already learned that I am paying a lot more for RACV insurance for less cover than what you have found.

Subject: [Syncro_T3_Australia] Insurance sequel
